Rangers manager Walter Smith has confirmed the club are closing in on agreeing a new deal with Kenny Miller. The experienced striker has been the club's stand-out player this term, culminating in winning August's SPL Player of the Month award. Miller has been in blistering form so far after bagging eight league goals in just five appearances. The 30-year-old's contract expires at the end of the season, but Smith is optimistic of retaining the striker's services. Agreement "We are not far away from an agreement," he told Rangers News. "Hopefully we can get together in the next few weeks and everything will be ironed out. "Eight goals from Kenny is terrific. He is playing very well right now. "His role has changed slightly from one where he was leading the line to one where he is now getting into the penalty area. "His confidence in terms of finishing is there for all to see and he has shown he is more than capable of putting the ball away." Finances Things are going well for Rangers on the pitch and their position off it is also improving after announcing a 12 per cent reduction in bank debt. The club have shaved �£3.7m from their total debt, taking the figure to �£27.1m. Their overdraft facilities, however, fell from �£26.1m to �£22.3m Rangers' turnover is up sharply over the past 12 months after they announced an increase of 41.8 per cent, taking their total turnover to �£56.3m. "I am very pleased to present the Rangers football club Annual Report against a backdrop of success for the club," chairman Alastair Johnston told the club's official website. "To win our 26th League Cup was outstanding but to secure our second successive Scottish Premier League title at this juncture was not only a tremendous achievement but one of paramount importance to the welfare of the club. "The benefit of participating in the UEFA Champions League in season 2009/10 is clear with our turnover increasing by �£16.6m to �£56.3m. "The financial results and the team's success have assisted in stabilising the business and strengthening our balance sheet. Some caution must be exercised, however, given the effect of the recession on our core revenue streams and the implications to Scottish football of the country's European ranking." Tannochsidebear 2,314 Posted September 22, 2010 Share Posted September 22, 2010 Some of the guys who took us to the final of the Euro Diddy cup were very valuable, like McGregor, Davis, Weir, Whittaker to name but a few, but some who have joined post-Manchester, like Miller, have performed dreadfully on that stage.
