From the Mirror.

Rangers are chasing Derby Countys contract rebel Kris Commons - and hope to take the Scotland international in a bargain deal.

Boss Walter Smith wants reinforcements on his slim budget and sent top spy Ian Wilson, the former Leicester midfielder, to watch Commons in action in his last three games.

Commons has yet to agree a new deal with the Rams and could leave on a free transfer at the end of the season - although Rangers are planning to try for him in the January window.

The talented buy injury-jinxed star has the kind of flair that Rangers lack in the their squad and he would be a big addition for them if a deal can be sorted out in the New Year.

The Glasgow giants are willing to wait until the end of the campaign to try their luck and offer him the pay deal that Derby may not be able to match.

Commons has been capped by Scotland and a move to the SPL would only enhance his chances of a regular game in the national side rather than trying to push his claims from the Championship.

No quotes from Rangers or the player himself.

Great, another injury jinxed star. Do we never learn?

Not financially we arent - and we need to be cognisant of that.

Champions league level players can be found cheaply eg Bougherra, Cuellar, Papac, Davis etc. Commons is a 27 year old playing in the championship for a reason

I've thought for a while now that Commons is very similar to McFadden. Both flatter to deceive more than actually doing anything worthwhile in a game. Both can score quality goals but likewise hide for entire matches.

I'd rather we spend any money we have on someone with a better reputation.
