2011/12 Rangers Squad

Recommended Posts

Well, we still have to wait and see, of course ...

McGregor

Whittaker - Bougherra - Weir/CB - Papac

Ortiz - Davis - Naismith - Wylde/Kerkar

Jelavic - Lafferty

... with a lot to switch and change. Remember that we will not play that style (4-4-2) against each and every opponent. I would rule out midfield enforcers like Ness, McCulloch or Edu and something like 4-5-1 or a more attack-minded 3-5-2 at home against the likes of St.Mirren.

Still a fan of this formation if you have the players.

Of course, it needs a certain amount of backtracking, but when you have wingbacks-come-wingers, something like this should work against St. Mirren or the like ...

e.g.

McGregor

Bougherra - Weir - Papac

Ortiz - Davis - Ness - Naismith - Wylde

Lafferty - Jelavic

Fixed that defence for you.....(in a dream world of course)

Consistantly average merits a place ahead of better players?

I agree with you Gribz. A good squad player but I would be looking for a better LB than Papac. He doesn't shut the ball down in the wide area quick enough and gets caught out of position quite a bit.

I would like something along these lines:

:am:

:sw: :cc: :kbartley: :sp:

:jmo: :sd: :me: :sn:

:nj: :kl:

While I'd be just as comfortable with Bougherra and Weir in central defence (and perhaps McCulloch in centre midfield) the above pairing would be ideal in my opinion.

Frankie, in a 4-4-2 id rather Bougherra at RB than Whittaker. Dont rate Whittaker much but after his contract signing its obvious he will be the first name on team sheet.

In midfield, Edu would be behind Ness, Hutton and McCulloch in the pecking order.

Is Ortiz a winger?
