King To Sue D Murray

Recommended Posts

Ring fencing made administration more likely so hardly an argument. It also leads directly to us losing players. Bain had a beef against Whyte not Rangers but he chose to kick Rangers in the nads.

I can't agree with this. It has been pointed out repeatedly by Admin etc that we went into Admin because of failure to pay £9m PAYE/NI and HMRC were fed up with Whyte's lies/posturing etc.

I'm sorry, but there is not "one thing" that put us in administration, there is a hell of a lot of cause and effect. Without the EBT's under Bain's watch, Whyte wouldn't have even be on the radar. The club are in administration as it looks like they are not able pay their liabilities and on-going costs - ring-fenced money reduces the club's ability to do this.

Part of the problem in reviewing the conduct of people like Bain, Muir, Johnston etc is that there's still loads of unanswered questions and many inconsistencies around exactly what was going on at Rangers over the last few years. We thought the truth would come out post-takeover once things had calmed down, but instead we're in the middle of an even bigger shit storm and the same people have pitched up again to stick their oar in.

Even when Walter was in charge he wasn't averse to making statements to the media which had clearly been influenced by one or more of the behind-the-scenes players. Remember the constant stories about us being doomed and how Lloyds were killing the club? Yet after Whyte took over we've started to hear how the debt was under control, still winning trophies etc from the very same people who were warning us about financial meltdown for the last couple of years.

There has clearly been gross financial mismanagement of the club from about the time when Advocaat was put in charge and the spending went nuts.

Apart from that, I've not much idea about any of the other rumours or accusations until I hear some actual evidence as it looks like the same personal agendas and vendettas which have been played out for the last 5 years continue to do so.

It was a Rangers story about Bain though was it not that accused of him? So yes his beef is with Whyte but his only recourse is through the entity which made the libellous claim (if indeed it is libellous).

Take Bain as a perfect example of this. While none of us are really sure what his remit was, he came in and apparently oversaw the initial down-sizing of the wage budget in record time. He was very visibly involved in celebrating silverware with the players & management and claimed to have the best interests of the club at heart.

There was also a noticeable change in tack when dealing with the media when he was given more responsibility over that side of things. So was he a Rangers man who did some good things for the club and was only paid a fair wage for someone in that sort of position, or was he out for personal gain, pure and simple?

No, Bain had a beef with his employer and sought compensation from it in the same way as you would. Whether Bain's compensation is excessive is another matter but he was entitled to something.

He can take no credit for the reduction of the debt he help create as surely that was the responsibility of Muir and the Bank.
That may be your opinion but it looks like it's based on a dislike of Bain rather than anything factual.

Plus I give no credit to the reduction of debt as it contravened an original arrangement that was already in place to pay it off in more reasonable terms (£1M per year) which would have allowed us a better budget in order to compete on the pitch. This could even almost be considered a bait and switch manoeuvre, and be akin to thanking your bank for halving your mortgage in a few years by forcing you to quadruple your payments.

THere was no contravension of the loan repayments. It was still being paid off at £1m pa. Yoiu need to separate the loan and the revolving credit facility.

If Bain is as good at his job as he claims, why would he come back when he should already be ensconced in a similar job elsewhere. In fact there is the nub: if he was good at his job, was worth the money, demonstrated a high integrity, AND not an enemy of Rangers, he would have taken up one of what should have been multiple offers elsewhere and resigned forthwith from Rangers. There would have been no financial penalty for him and his reputation would have remained intact, where he could have been free to slate Whyte with impunity, warn the fans (and have them listen) and get some sort of revenge..

Bain wasn't great at his job and he was overpaid, but you're getting a wee bit carried away when you suggest he's an enemy of the club. Revenge? He's a business man not some sort of thug.

He did none of this and as such, with the whole picture is one that shows little morality and not that many levels above the depths of Whyte in my eyes..

That's a totally ridiculous statement.

Even at the basic level, if he was that good, he wouldn't have been totally ineffective while we headed to the abyss. Do we really want such an incompetent CEO back?

He's not a great CEO, but I'm not sure he could be described as incompetent. He appears to have operated under strict guidelines while Murray was in control, and seemed to have performed his duties as he was instructed. You and I may not have liked the way he did it, and there's a few areas that I took great exception to him, but it doesn't make him incompetent. His performance seemed to improve once Murray's shackles were off and he seemed to perform better, although there were still areas where improvement could be made.

I don't know why people are throwing around complements like confetti to those who have actually harmed our club - especially Bain, Johnston, Muir and Lloyds. It's unbelievable that we even have King complimenting HMRC...

Who is complimenting Muir and Lloyds (apart from you)? Are you sure HMRC don't deserve to be complimented, or at least buttered up? Our club is still at risk and throwing them a bone is not a bad tactic. Neither of us know what negotiations have been taking place since administration and you don't have enough information to make any judgement on it.

As for AJ, you call on Bain to have come out and criticise Whyte but you don't give AJ any credit for doing so.

The bottom line is that the club could get a better and cheaper CEO than Bain but hysteria isn't going to help the whole process.

A spokesman for the Murray Group responded to the comments made by Mr King, who invested £20m in the club in March 2000.

He said: "We note with some interest, and much incredulity, Dave King's press statement.

"It is difficult to understand his motives, given he has been a director of Rangers Football Club since the year 2000.

"Throughout the period of his directorship, Dave King has attended and participated in regular board meetings, including those approving the annual audited accounts, received board papers quarterly, had full access to the executive management of the club, and been privy to the same detailed financial and commercial information as every other board member.

"In the event that he actually lodges a claim, we would vigorously defend it."

The spokesman added: "Murray Group fully intends to make further detailed press comment on the wider circumstances at Rangers Football Club once it considers this will not detract from or interfere with the difficult and delicate work of the administration.

"It is deeply regrettable and hugely saddening for all the employees and supporters that the club finds itself in its present situation."

In this week of drama, i.e. real drama for Rangers FC, was there any need to heat up the debate and give the media more ammunition? What a silly stunt by the man harrassed for what, a dozen years by RSA's taxmen?
