SPL titles: Would you mind if they were stripped?

Recommended Posts

My reading of it is that although the EBT's were declared in our annual accounts, they weren't disclosed in contractual form to the SPL. Whether we could afford the payments or indeed their legality isn't the issue here. Non-contractual player payments is.

The dual contracts side of it comes into play in terms of proving that certain players were given these payments outwith those contracted payments lodged with the SPL.

As for the fact that they were declared in our accounts. Yes, they were there for all to see. However the devil's in the details and just like HMRC discovered that they could pursue us on a technicality, so did the SPL.

You can't disclose something on a contract if it is not contractual.

The more WE talk about it, the bigger the chance of it happening.

You might have a point, but somehow I don't think that those who discovered this stick to beat us with are going to just forgive and forget.

I believe the argument is the players we played with the EBT payments were actually ineligible, therefore making every game they played a 3-0 defeat.

that is just nonsense mate. what about other clubs who used tax avoidance schemes? what about other clubs who used ebt's?

If they made all the games a 3-0 defeat would we not be relagated? Ha Div 3 it is.

That's where it could get really messy. For instance if they determined that was the case for the 2001-2002 season, how does that effect our history since?

I for one hope that we fight this all the way. With the way the SFA & SPL has handled all things Rangers there is a good chance that if they bring indeed something up, it can be defeated pretty easily in court. Obviously, we should figh this for the sole reason that the lawyers who did the initial research are also those of Celtic, thus there's conflict of interest if ever there was one. Furthermore, we should want any single "double contract" being examines for misuse and want to know whether said player actually had any impact on the field of play. And, of course, we should demand that each and every team should be investigated too, not just for EBTs, but image rights stuff et al too. Else, we should sue for damage of image and the use of double standards.
