Rangers v Glasgow City, Sunday, 4pm at Petershill Park, Springburn.

Second Now The Aim

RANGERS Ladies will look to bounce back from consecutive defeats for the first time this year on Sunday (4pm) when they face SWPL champions Glasgow City.

The Light Blues lost 2-0 last night to Spartans and that result confirmed City – who recently relinquished their six-year unbeaten league record to the Edinburgh side – as champions.

Although there’s no title to chase, Gers are having their best top-flight campaign yet and still sit in the runners-up spot with three fixtures remaining.

But they’ll look to protect their position having lost twice in four days, with the team also eliminated from the Scottish Cup at the weekend by Aberdeen.

Extra-time was required at Heathryfold Park to separate the sides after Erin Cuthbert’s equaliser had ensured it would finish 1-1 at the end of the regulation 90 minutes.

The Dons went ahead again but despite going down to 10 players when Sophie Riley was sent off for illegally denying a goalscoring opportunity, Gers were handed a late lifeline.

Cuthbert was brought down in the box and a penalty was given but Cuthbert’s kick was saved and the visitors were on their way out at the quarter-final stage.

Yesterday’s encounter came with manager Kevin Murphy minus a number of key players and as such there were several changes to the starting line-up.

The game’s pivotal moment came after the break when Rangers midfielder Natalie Ross was shown a second yellow card despite seeming to win a challenge.

From there, Spartans were able to forge ahead and two goals were enough to give the fourth-placed side victory at Ainslie Park.

Both meetings with Glasgow City have been close this season, with the Light Blues narrowly missing out on each occasion.

They were beaten 3-2 at Sunday’s match venue Petershill Park in May then lost 3-1 when the teams came together again for a post-split tie in August.

October 4th

Happy Birthday to our own @Suzanne13Mulvey who turns 30 today

Watched the first half of the game on Sunday in company of about 20 Rangers fans who were outnumbered by around 5 to 1 by fans who appeared to be Dundee Utd supporters but were actually supporting Glasgow City.

Not sure who was at home and who was the away team.

I have to admit that both teams were trying to play passing football and there was a fair amount of skill and no little pace on display. Rangers took the lead midway through the first half through no.5 Erin Cuthbert, who followed up on a defensive error to slide the ball slowly under the goalkeeper who didn't seem happy about diving on the astroturf. City promptly equalised after a nice move and cut back on the right, Fiona Brown doing the honours.

I thought Rangers best player was their no. 8, one of their three Megan's, this one being the captain Megan Brown

There was also a decent amount of aggression and the ref was in action dishing out some warnings but no yellows up to half time. Apparently the Gers star turn, Natalie Ross was out through suspension for two yellows.

The girls seem to take it seriously enough and have as many coaches as Ally&Co. It was quite funny to see the quite rotund lady referee flanked by two quite tall, slim male assistants.

Due to a breakdown in the coffee machine it was just too cold to stay for the second half.

Now wait, these girls were running about half-clad trying to give the old and new Scottish champions a run for their money and you deemed it too cold?!?! knueppel.gif ... zunge.gif

Cuthbert is a real little goal-machine, dunno whether she's already past 17 ...

As you said they were running about and some of them were very fast indeed.
