Rangers Women - Games and Updates

Recommended Posts

Yep ... it was not one of the better games though, Wolfsburg are top of the league and will most likely clinch the title next week. Potsdam will finish fourth, having been a dominant force in German women football for years, grooming talent like few others - they have the same head coach since 1997. Sadly enough, the big and better "sponsored" West German teams, first Frankfurt and now Wolfsburg and Bayern Munich too, snatch most of the players developed by Potsdam out of their grasps. Since there are no or if anything marginal transfer fees being paid, the job for Potsdam gets ever harder with not that much money in return.

As for the game, a punt up the part misjudged by the defender, a dubious penalty and one clinical finish by the team who provided strength and pace rather than greater football ability won the day. That said, Wolfsburg only conceded three goals throughout the season, each scored by ... Turbine Potsdam.

Bayern have the Dutch super talent Vivianne Miedema on their books. Tipped to be the best female player to date.

Murphy Disappointed With Defeat

KEVIN Murphy expressed his disappointment in Rangers’ first loss of the season against Aberdeen at Petershill. The blue belles went down to the Dons 2-0 in a game which Rangers suffered from not taking their chances

Ladies Travel To Inverness

RANGERS travel to Inverness tomorrow as they bid to bounce back from their first league defeat of the season last week at home to Aberdeen.

A disappointing 2-0 defeat by the Dons at Petershill last week marked the end of Gers’ 100 percent win record for the season, but manager Kevin Murphy insists his side can put that result behind them and get a victory this weekend.

He said: “Despite the loss last week the camp have remained pretty upbeat and positive. We had a good video analysis session on Thursday in preparation for Sunday and the players are keen to make amends for last week’s performance.”

Inverness themselves were comprehensively beaten by league leaders Glasgow City last weekend, but again Murphy was quick to play down any talk of a walk-over for the Light Blues.

“I fully expect a competitive match against an Inverness side who will be hurting from last week’s result against Glasgow City,” Murphy said.

“Despite their heavy 12-0 loss, I foresee a close encounter judging by their home results thus far in the league and league cup.”

The Light Blues are without Megan Foley who is suspended and could potentially also be missing Hayley Cunningham in midfield, who picked up a knock last weekend.

"You have just made history" - Rangers Girls 2003s to take on the boys

Written by Steven Mair

New ground was broken on the 19th April when Rangers Girls 2003s played a friendly against Giffnock SC. The girls played their first 11-a-side game against all-boy opposition that day. A week later, they recorded their first win at 11-a-sides, again versus a boys team. What is special about Rangers Girls is that they plan to do just that for all of next season in the all-boys PJDYFL.

The side, who already have done so for a season at 7-a-side level, are thought to be the first girls team in the country to participate in an all-boys 11-a-side league setup.

Swanson Excited For Old Firm

6cd8216bbff3b3878e999a85d9f2fc0d_XL.jpg

WITH the first Old Firm game of the season on the horizon, Lisa Swanson has expressed her excitement for Sunday’s clash against Celtic at Springburn.

Swanson is Rangers Ladies’ longest serving player, having pulled on the light blue jersey every Sunday in a season for seven straight years.

...

She explained: “The advice I would give to my teammates who have never played against Celtic before is: do not fear them. We are representing Glasgow Rangers in an Old Firm game which is something not many people get to do. It is a special game to be involved in, so go out and enjoy every minute of it.”

Sinclair: Mindset Is Important

IT'S not often a player comes around that has played for both sides of the Old Firm divide.

But in Hayley Sinclair, Rangers have a midfielder who has indeed crossed the city and now plies her trade with Rangers Ladies.

And that experience could prove pivotal to success when Rangers Ladies host Celtic at Springburn on Sunday.

The 18 year-old has played in this fixture before for Celtic and therefore knows how special these games are. However, this coming Sunday will be her first derby in the light blue of Rangers and she insists the occasion will not get to her.
