Stirling Albion secretary Dick King slammed for branding Rangers fans 'Huns' online

KING was accused of demonising Rangers fans by supporters of his own club as well as those of the Ibrox side after insisting local police were ready for any trouble.

A FOOTBALL club chief has fallen foul of his own sideâ??s supporters for calling Rangers â??the Hunsâ?.

Stirling Albion secretary Dick King used the derogatory term on an internet chatroom.

King is hoping to sell thousands of tickets to the Ibrox faithful for the teamsâ?? league clash next month.

But his own fans have accused him of â??demonisingâ? Rangers fans after he claimed that local police were â??manning upâ? for trouble.

Stirling â?? one of the clubs who voted to demote Gers to the Third Division â?? are at home to the Ibrox giants on October 6.

Some Binos fans on the RedWeb internet forum are unhappy that manager Greig McDonald will miss the game because heâ??s getting married on the same day.

But King, under the name Auld Reekie, hit back: â??The wedding was fixed long before the Huns were contemplating entry into League 3.â?

He added: â??Rangers fans scarcely covered themselves in glory when they visited for a friendly last year and what did we get?

â??Unruly behaviour, flares and unacceptable songs.

â??The police are only too well aware of what we might see on October 6 and will be manned up accordingly.â?

The testimonial for Albion chairman Peter McKenzie last year was marred by Rangers fans singing sectarian songs.

Kingâ??s comments provoked a strong response from other Albion supporters.

One, called MacPhail, said: â??Can I ask, as you seem to be working for the club in an official capacity, if the club endorses the use of the word Huns to describe Rangers?

â??I know itâ??s fashionable to demonise Rangers supporters as swivel-eyed bigots but thatâ??s a lot of b******s, with all due respect.â?

Another, named Horsey, said: â??Itâ??s completely wrong to generalise all supporters of a club as being the same.

â??There are tens of thousands who support both Old Firm clubs who donâ??t behave like the scum of the Earth.â?

A Rangers spokesman said: â??These comments coming from a club official are ill-judged and disappointing.â?

A Stirling Albion spokesman said the club had no comment.
