SPL wonâ??t appeal Gers

Recommended Posts

SPL chiefs WONâ??T appeal Lord Nimmo Smithâ??s verdict on Rangersâ?? use of EBTs.

Celtic issued a statement last week urging football authorities to look further into the respected lawmanâ??s ruling.

And clubs have the option to ask the SFA to intervene.

But Dundee United chairman Stephen Thompson insisted last night the case is now CLOSED.

SPL board member Thompson revealed league bosses simply want to draw a line under the bitter battle and he urged Rangers to do the same â?? for the sake of Scottish football.

Thompson said: â??I was on the board when we decided to go with the commission and Iâ??m back on the board.

â??It was an independent commission and thatâ??s the route we decided was the right one, completely independent from the board.

â??The decisionâ??s made and as far as Iâ??m concerned thatâ??s it now, itâ??s done and we move on.

â??Iâ??d like there to be a line drawn under things now for the sake of Scottish football.

â??Weâ??re about to go through possibly the biggest change in the game for a long time.

â??But Iâ??d like to draw a line and move on for the sake of the game. I think that is important.

â??Thereâ??s no doubt that the last year or so has damaged the image of the game and itâ??s time to move on for the sake of the game from the top down.â?

Thompson met with other SPL chiefs at Hampden yesterday for talks on the proposed league reconstruction.

And the Tannadice owner insists an agreement CAN be struck and pushed through in time for next season.

He added: â??Itâ??s hard, thereâ??s no doubt about that, but thereâ??s a lot of good things in it.

â??It gets knocked and everyone gets caught up in the numbers game but thereâ??s a lot of positive things; going to one league body, redistribution of funds, the pyramid system that the SFA want.

â??There is no perfect solution, no matter what everyone says, but itâ??s a step forward as far as most clubs are concerned.

â??It can be done in time for next season.

â??There is a willingness from everyone to get there and weâ??re now working very, very hard to get it over the line but a lot of discussions need to take place yet.

â??I think if you go longer cracks will start to appear.

â??Itâ??s the first time Iâ??ve been involved in ten or 11 years with Dundee United and weâ??ve had all 12 clubs â?? okay, a few may not be 100 per cent yet and they have queries, but generally the 12 clubs in the SPL agreed to take it to the next stage and thatâ??s what weâ??re doing.

â??If this doesnâ??t go through itâ??ll be many, many years before something else comes to the table again.

â??Itâ??s taken two or three years to get something to the table the majority of clubs in Scotland can get behind.â?

There is only one club that doesn't want to draw a line under this. It was the club driving the whole thing in the first place

That will be the same club that felt they needed to make a press statement?,the only club to do so!

Which had to be the most cringeworthy press release in a long time. As the guy said on Talk Sport "why don't you wrap yourself up in yourself a little bit more?" or words to that effect.

It was a truly pathetic statement from Sanctimonious FC. Even by their standards

this was a tad rich:

“We’re about to go through possibly the biggest change in the game for a long time."

As if illegally putting Rangers, the country's biggest and most successful club, down to the bottom division was not the biggest change of all effing time you cheating barsteward.

You gotta love Stephen Thompson.

I mean, is he devoid of reality, or is he genuinely stupid?

Glibly, he reveals he was on the SPL Board, then off it(he resigned on a point of principle), and now he is back on it. I suspect the proposed 16% rise in remuneration for full time Rangers hating over-rode that point of principle?

The thing is, not a single member of the broadcast/print media think to question and reveal why dearest Stephen jumped off/jumped back on the gravy train in a matter of 5 weeks. It is most reminiscent of Neil Doncaster and Peter Lawwell being spotted boarding a plane to London. Forty minutes later, as the plane landed in London, we were informed Neil and Peter were members of the newly created SPL TV rights committee. As yet, we have not discovered who else serves on this very particular committee.

Snouts in the Trough Loyal RSC.

Apparently Thompson resigned because Topping accused him of leaking stuff to the press.

Amazing how such stuff can be resolved so quickly and so amicably. Nothing to do with Utd struggling to remain a going concern.

But remember, DU did NOT need us to attend the cup game. I repeat they do not need us

The media in the last few days has clearly been about 'um we fucked out, proved it was a witch hunt, time to appease with the 'move on message''

Yup and this is with 5 Dundee Derbies in 1 season. And now Dundee are going to be back down next season.
