Charles wants ally to sack his backroom team.

Recommended Posts

CHARLES GREEN has asked Ally McCoist to consider sacking right-hand men Ian Durrant and Kenny McDowall to save his own job.

And Record Sport can reveal the astonishing request has plunged Rangers into civil war.

Embattled Ibrox chief executive Green, right, has undermined boss McCoist by axing physio Pip Yeates, chief scout Neil Murray and striker Fran Sandaza in a chaotic two-week purge.

But the Yorkshireman has now gone even further by telling McCoist he believes Durrant and McDowall must also be binned as part of his restructuring plans.

McCoist has been rocked by Greenâ??s request but is almost certain to stand his ground and demand his coaching team stays.

And that could lead to a further deterioration of his relationship with the man who has already branded his team the worst Rangers side in history.

Club insiders believe McCoist was nearing the end of his tether with Green before the outspoken chief floated the idea of knifing his mates in the back.

It is difficult to see how the pair can now repair the damage done to their working relationship.

We can also reveal Greenâ??s admission he teamed up with disgraced former owner Craig Whyte to drive through his Sevco takeover has caused huge unrest in the boardroom and amongst shareholders.

Chairman Malcolm Murray has yet to comment but a source close to the saga said: â??There is a high level of concern about some of the things going on.â?

All for changes in the management team but sacking Durrant and McDowall wouldnt be justifed. Put them back in charge of reserves or help out coaches. But in general agree with the restructure of the management team .

Go for the likes of Ray Wilkins, Brian Laudrup, Arthur Numan

I think there will be a number of significant changes over the coming weeks.....

CG's been in the job for a good while now, he knows how things are being run and the league has been won - now the restructuring starts. I can see there being a combination of cost cutting & hopefully personnel improvements across the board. Sometimes these 2 can go hand-in-hand.

If CG/The Board don't think Durrant and/or McDowell are up to the task, get shot completely. IMO, there is no point "relegating" them to the reserves/youths.....all that will happen is that they will produce sub-standard players for the 1st team.

Hopefully the Board have a vision of what they want from the playing side of things (at all levels), and know who they believe can deliver that vision.
