Ally wants another goalie

Recommended Posts

What confuses me is that Ally says he wants two good keepers competing for the spot. Right. Then he says Gallacher has been outstanding, so why the need to get in yet another one if there's two good lads already? Gallacher mit not bring that much experience but it should do as bachup shouldn't it.

It's a complete waste of money to bring in another keeper and send Gallacher out on loan. Fair enough if we were in the top flight, but this is just getting ridiculous for the level we're playing at.

Tbh, we could easily have done without signing Foster and Smith too.

We had no quality RB last season, even though Mitchell made a good start indeed. Smith is a valuable back-up for Wallace, we had and have no ready LB beyond Wallace.

Ally wanted to send Gallagher out last season, but we didn't get another goalie. I would be content with having e.g. Bell, with Gordon on a pay-as-you-play deal and the two youngsters as back-up, with Gallagher on a six-months loan for the time being.

Apparently Ally enjoys being in the position to have a large squad to pick from. But any coach will tell you having a 30+ player squad is difficult because people who don't play will get incontent sooner or later.

I can see the point of wanting to send Gallagher out on loan. The lad needs some competitive game time. If he stays, the chances are that he'll spend most if not all of the season on the bench. It's difficult for Rangers to continue the development of keepers any other way than loaning them out when they get to Gallaghers age.

There is no need for us to be signing a player of similar standard to Bell though. A pay-as-you-play deal for Gordon is nonsense. It's not the type of deal Gordon needs and it's not a good deal for us if we're for any reason forced to play him.

Why not take a look at the keepers in the lower divisions. We even came up against some decent quality keepers last season in the third. Obviously they need to be available, but if we need an experienced backup then at this level they don't need to have EPL and international experience ffs.

Players get used to sitting about doing nothing, offering nothing and picking up wages for nothing. We have had players like that by the bucket load at Rangers for the last 20 odd years. Millionaire passengers. I thought Ally would have learned from all the obvious mistakes made in the last 2 decades.
