Horrendous comments from McCoist

Recommended Posts

Great managers can deal with any criticism that comes in their direction - the ones that fail in that department are weak.

Alex Ferguson boycotted the BBC for seven years because of a documentary which painted his son a poor light. Not that BBC boycotts are anything other than championed about here.

Ally was responding to criticism of his team. He dealt with it. Probably not as well as he could have done, but a boycott wasn't an option.

Last years team and he was correct, McCoist's outburst was juvenile and transparent for the excuses that it was concocted from, he quite simply is a poor manager, a good manager would have pinned perceived threat/insults to the dressing room wall and told them to get out there and prove it wrong, not acted like a big girls blouse.

If he should have made the comments at all he should have done so at the pre-match press conference. Under those circumstances I think we'd be having a very different debate here.

But we aren't the damage is done can it be repaired.

What is the actual damage beyond it giving a section of the support an excuse to stick the boot in McCoist?

The 'war' at our club has been and continues to be played out in public anyway. McCoist has now made it clear he's not on the same side as Green. He's also publicly defended Mather which has made for some interesting developments today. Should the manager be getting involved in a board room power struggle? not normally, but these circumstances are anything but normal.

The timing of them diminishes any potential affect of his rant imo.

Without a doubt they're easier to be dismissed as excuses or blowing off steam, which in itself is a convenient excuse for making them in the first place.

The bottom line is - what influence can these comments possibly have both on the power struggle and supporters opinions thereof?

Already today we've gone from a requisition for the removal of Mather to him being offered an olive branch by McColl's group. Coincidence?

think we need to take this back to a base, footballing level; we had a good pre-season, players all trained well, a great facilities, with some of the best coaching staff that money can buy in Scotland, we had players on salaries that other 1st division teams can only dream about, we came out played very poor tactical football and were beaten by a team that we never should be defeated by.

Ally McCoist is not a quality football manager, his tactical capability is very limited, his plan B every time is to punt long balls into the box, in fact occasionally that is his plan A. he has not exploited the opportunity he had to build a new footballing philosophy at Rangers. He's run out of excuses and time.

Great servant, has been a true Ranger, but time to step aside and let the Club move forwards. Admire Walter's friendship and loyalty but if he has to go as well, so be it, the team has to move on and we won't do that under Ally's tutelage.

He talks about Green undermining the players, then does the very same. It's going to be a very tough August, on and off the Park. Disappointed in Ally making excuses and not taking any of the blame himself.

Great point. And TBH who didn't agree with Green's comments? The mistake was saying them publically. If Ally had said the same thing that we were going after the league and a cup then everyone would have said that's exactly what we should be going after.

Where does that leave Ally now that Walter apparently is opposing Mather.

Apparently according to reports today it could lead to Mather being removed as a director but kept on as CEO if the requisition is successful.
