Ah, so Alan Smith is now well and truly outwith the youth age groups with a 25.05.93 DOB when eligible players for the U20 squad are those born on or after 01.01.95.

Has he been released or moved on though?

Best wishes to Cammy Bell and hopefully it's not serious enough to keep him out for too long. If it turns out that it IS going to be up to 3 months, then we'll need to hope Steve Simonsen stays fully fit.

Anyone know what the story is with young Alan Smith? Is he still with us and is he fit because he seems to have disappeared from the picture? He was previously in the U20 pecking order, but these days it seems to be Liam Kelly, Robbie McCrorie, then Lewis McMinn.

His contract was up in the summer and as far as i am aware, i haven't seen any news of an extension.

They still have him as a Rangers player but his contract has expired.

High hopes for the lad who would possibly have been involved with future Republic squads had his career gone as expected.

Rangers keeper Cammy Bell back in two weeks

RELIEVED Rangers goalkeeper Cammy Bell has been told he will be out for only two weeks.

The 27-year-old feared he could be sidelined for months after he injured his shoulder during Friday night’s 2-0 Championship victory at Falkirk.

Bell thought he had suffered a dislocation but yesterday a scan revealed the problem was less serious.

A specialist confirmed that he had hurt his shoulder but didn’t need surgery.

Bell has been told he can be back playing after two weeks of rehabilitation and physio.

It is a major relief for Ibrox manager Ally McCoist who feared he might have to sign another keeper to provide cover for Steve Simonsen, who deputised against Clyde.

Am I the only one who doesn't rate Bell? Simonsen is a bomb scare though, so unless we have some hidden gems in the youths, the position for decades that has been secured by top quality is no more.

Cammy Bell is a very good keeper, but he still needs to improve his all round game and decision making, especially the overall command of his box and stamping his authority in the air when balls come into the box. Alexander had problems on that front too though, so it's not exactly a new problem for us top deal with.

My main gripe with Bell is that I'd like to see him rolling and passing the ball out to defenders more often to encourage more of a passing game rather than continually punting the ball up the park, but unfortunately when you play defenders who like to hoof the ball up the park themselves, then Bell often doesn't have much choice. There's no point in him passing the ball to Foster to punt up the park when he can just do it himself, so maybe our whole team need to stretch and pressure the opposition more so that one or two can drop off and take a pass or roll out from Bell?
