The Third Loan Signing

Recommended Posts

Rangers are on the brink of landing highly-rated Arsenal youngster Gedion Zelalem on a season-long loan deal.

Record Sport can reveal the 18-year-old flew into Glasgow this afternoon and was whisked straight to the championship club’s Murray Park training complex for face-to-face signing talks with manager Mark Warburton which will continue throughout the afternoon.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger tips Rangers target Zelalam for the top: Gedion has the talent to become a great player

It’s understood a number of English clubs had been hoping to land the attacking midfielder who is being hotly tipped as a future USA international after recently switching allegiances from Germany.

But after tying up similar temporary deals with Spurs for Nathan Oduwa and Dominic Ball, Warburton now appears in pole position to snap up another young talent from London.

Zelalem played for the Gunners Under-21s on Friday night, scoring a stunning late solo goal to wrap up a 1-0 win.

Exciting stuff if true. With someone like Warburton in charge, you can see why a move up here could be an attractive proposition for EPL clubs wanting younger players to get regular game time as well as having big crowds and a bit of an expectation to succeed on their shoulders. That said, I wonder why it's not happened before? Was it simply because we weren't interested or didn't have the contacts that MW has?
