RANGERS’ youngsters battled back from adversity to draw 3-3 with Dundee United, after ending the match with 10 men due to injury, to remain unbeaten in the Development League.

Ian Durrant’s side were 3-2 down with eight minutes left to play when Ross Lyon struck an equaliser but it came after the 20s had been shaken by serious injury to three of their teammates.

Lewis White and Jordan Thompson left the ground in an ambulance after dislocating a shoulder and most likely breaking a wrist and Scott Roberts was on crutches after tearing his ankle ligaments.

Dundee United fielded a team featuring six players with first team experience, meanwhile Durrant named his youngster side ever, with an average age of 18.8.

The Light Blues actually got their noses in front first when Jamie Brandon struck inside 12 minutes. Rangers had switched the play well and reacted quickly when the ball was cleared out of play. He latched onto a speedy throw in from Josh Jeffries to skip into the box from the right flank and unleash an impressive effort, on the angle, that sent the net fluttering.

But nine minutes later United had pegged one back through Jordan Moore after a mistake from Robby McCrorie. The Scotland under-19 keeper left the striker with an empty goal to finish into and he easily tapped home. Just minutes later though, the stopper made up for his error when he denied Justin Johnson at full stretch, with his effort fizzing in from the left.

Scott Roberts was up next in an end to end opening period, he did well to get to the by-line on 26 minutes but could only find the side netting with his shot. Trailist Rory Currie took his turn too when he made a clever turn after teeing himself up and taking the ball off Callum Morris but the keeper held it well.

Just before the break the home side could have gone ahead when Harry Souttar rose highest to get his head to a corner from the right and he headed inches wide of the post.

But the half was to end on a sour note when White went down screaming in agony after slipping his shoulder out of place after going up for a header. With his treatment clearly set to take a while the referee called for half-time and the defender was stretched from the pitch with both club’s medics by his side.

Rangers were clearly shaken after seeing their teammate in such peril and they lost a goal after five minutes of the second-half starting. It was Moore’s second of the evening as he rose to glance a header past McCrorie after a corner from Ali Coote.

It took a while for Durrant’s side to get a foothold on the game again. Johnson went close for United and was only denied by an excellent double save from McCrorie and then Coote blazed an effort over.

And on 63 minutes Moore had his hat-trick for the evening and it came straight from a goalkick. That caught the Gers defence off guard and he took advantage as he lashed a volley past the keeper. The Dundee United forward has battled back from more than most to fine form, having suffered twice from skin cancer at just 21-years-old.

The youngsters could have packed up but they showed tremendous spirit and hauled the game back to 3-2 through a spot kick for handball. Dylan Dykes stepped up and sent the keeper the wrong way to give them belief once again.

Two minutes later though Thompson was forced off with his wrist injury and with all substitutes used Gers were going to have to play the final 12 minutes with a man down. It didn’t seem to matter to the young Bears though as sub Lyon popped up after Reeghan Tumility’s header fell short. The forward held off two defenders to side foot home and draw his team level at the death.

Subs not used: Wright, Bradley
