Hoops cause outrage by backing IRELAND

FURIOUS Scotland fans have hit out at Celtic after the club backed IRELAND for the win that knocked Gordon Strachan's men OUT of Euro 2016.

Scotland's qualifying dream died after their 1-1 draw with Poland and the Republic of Ireland's shock 1-0 win over Germany.

If the Irish had failed to beat the world champions the Scots' hopes would still be alive.

Scotland will now miss out on yet another major finals with the Tartan Army stuck at home next summer instead of partying in France.

Before kick-off Celtic sent out a good-luck message to Martin O'Neill's Ireland side and that infuriated Scotland fans.

Celtic tweeted: "Good luck to the @FAIreland tonight #ireger #makethematchgreen."

There were no Celtic players in the Ireland squad.

The Hoops did also tweet their support for Scotland ahead of the Poland showdown.

But many fans - a lot of them Hoops supporters - were furious that Celts were backing another nation.

Mark Jones said: "Mon the Scotland, we're a Scottish team no irish."

Jim Armstrong said: "education, geography. Where in glasgow is Dublin? You're Scottish for god sake!"

Others defended the tweet though, with Patrick Leonard saying: "don't care what anyone says, our roots are Irish, we are both Scottish and Irish, support both or go learn your history."

From what I can remember it was 2-2.

Ritche was Pathetic except for his goal and assist. Centre backs were poor and looked like cart-horses. Brown is the waste of a jersey and runs about like a headless chicken. Two world class goals gave us hope. 1 world class striker took it away.

World Champions losing 0-1 to Ireland after 69% - 31% possession stats!!!

As for Scotland...why have we got a right footed back playing on the left when there's a guy (Wallace) who plays proper left back in a rich vein of form? And without showing bias...why was the most consistent goalscorer thus far (Griffiths) not an automatic choice?

Our national team are a joke, too much loyalty shown to the tried and trusted, a good manager would have the ability to select on form Scots instead of the usual suspects.

Scott Brown is never Scotland material, an arse of a player who should never be near the jersey never mind being captain, what a mess we find ourselves in, it just epitomises it with him as captain!

Fletcher the former Man U bloke has never done it for his country either, yet Strachan still picks him because of his 'background', Hutton is allegedly our best right back who struggles in a poor Aston Villa side, Maloney is not fit to don the shirt, Naismith regardless of his hard work and kicking folk all over the place isn't good enough and the other Fletcher who bought himself a Lamborghini playing for a team fighting relegation every year is awful.

The coach picks the players, the SFA picks the coach.

Does the SFA have an Ethics committee similar to that of FIFA? Could we, the fans, demand they get rid of Regan and Liewell etc. the same way FIFA dumped Blatter and Platini?

The Scottish game from top to bottom is in a mess. The only bright spot is Mark Warburton.

Watched the second half of Germany vs the Irish and it was like watching us against some Championship side. The Irish defending with claw, tooth and nails, whereas the Germans were probing and probing and probing. They did have some aweful misses by e.g. the likes of Müller, who scored 8 in this qualyfing campaign. Same with the Irish goal, punt up front (kick and rush some may ccall it), Shane Long (the Scotsman in Irish colours) on to it, leaving two German CH in his wake (were have we heard this before?) and whipping a smashing shot past Neuer.

The Scots, well, if you leave your best attacking option on the bench for some qualifying games, but continue to play folk like Brown and Mulgrew, you know the script. Couple that with a Lewandowski in red-hot form and you're in for a battle you are bound to lose. Would have been smashing if all "home nations" would have been at the WC, but Strachan and Co. have just followed suit with the trend of Scottish footie in general.

They were playing the world cup champions and that's a fantastic result, it's a shame we could not have done likewise. Ireland aren't even in the top 50, they're hardly going to beat Germany playing swashbuckling football.
