We'll probably loan out young Hardie out again next season to play against our haters. I like that.

I remember I used to watch and hope the Scottish teams did well in Europe!,with the exception of the BHEASTS,but now I actually don't care!,the same for the Scotland international team.

 

I do, however, hope one day we can get back to supporting the Scottish National Team.

Sadly , at present, it is just a YES voters rally....

Dundee United have made an official approach to Raith Rovers for permission to speak to Ray McKinnon.

 

Since the sacking of Mixu Paatelainen this week it has been an open secret that former United player McKinnon has been top of chairman Stephen Thompson’s list to be his next manager.

 

The Tannadice club did not want to make their move until Rovers’ involvement in the Premiership play-offs was over, and that happened today with a 2-0 defeat (2-1 on aggregate) to Hibs.

 

A short club statement read: “Dundee United have made an official approach to Raith Rovers to seek permission to speak to their manager Ray McKinnon about the vacant managerial position at Tannadice Park.”

 

Raith have yet to issue a comment of their own.

 

Their last word on the matter was that they would not entertain any approach while their season was still alive.

 

Now that it is over though, Courier Sport understands that the talks with United are all but certain to take place and that the Raith directors suspect that McKinnon has managed his last game for them.

 

Speed could be crucial for United as it is thought there is interest from elsewhere in the former Brechin City boss, who has worked wonders to get Raith into the play-offs on a small budget.

 

Hibs, should Alan Stubbs head back down south in the summer as has been rumoured, are admirers of McKinnon’s work.

If you are going to be in the championship for a number of years then it will be indeed wise to get a manager that knows the ropes in that league. Good choice.

DUNDEE United last night paved the way to make Ray McKinnon their new manager after caving on Raith Rovers' cash demands.

 

Rovers initially refused permission for United chairman Stephen Thompson on Saturday evening to open talks with their boss because he failed to offer compensation to the Kirkcaldy club.

 

Chief executive Eric Drysdale made it clear there would be no deal until the clubs thrashed out their own terms, with McKinnon still under contract at Starks Park for another year.

 

Having rejected the first offer made by United late yesterday afternoon, Rovers accepted improved terms last night - and now it’s expected that McKinnon will be confirmed as Mixu Paatelainen’s replacement as early as Monday.

 

The Raith Rovers board were at pains to make it clear they have tried to hang on to McKinnon, whose impressive reign saw the Starks Park side narrowly lose their Premiership promotion play-off to Hibs on Saturday.

 

But they accept that it looks certain that the boss will jump at the chance to take over the club where he excelled as a player.

Drysdale said: “Raith Rovers supporters should be aware that chairman Alan Young and I have met with Ray on Thursday, post-match on Saturday and again this afternoon and we are doing all we feasibly can to retain the services of our manager.

 

“However, we understand that Ray wants to listen to what Dundee United have to say and we have agreed to allow this, having reached agreement on a compensation figure should United offer him the post and Ray accepts.

 

“Having rejected an initial compensation offer made by Dundee United earlier today, an increased offer has now been accepted which allows Ray to meet with United chairman Stephen Thompson.”

 

United had little choice but to give in to Raith’s demands as they seek to tie up their number one target quickly, as reports in our sister paper the Sunday Mail linked Hibs as possible suitors for the in-demand boss.

 

With Alan Stubbs understood to be on the radar of his former club Bolton Wanderers, McKinnon would have been a prime target for the Hibees if their gaffer is lured south to succeed sacked Neil Lennon.

 

Tonight sources close to Stubbs insisted there has so far been no contact from Bolton, but United couldn’t afford to risk dithering in their steps to secure McKinnon before any rival interest comes into play.

Earlier in the day, Drysdale had made it clear to Record Sport that there would be no deal until United showed them serious cash.

 

Drysdale said: “Basically there won’t be any further dialogue until such time as Dundee United make an offer of compensation that is acceptable to us.

 

““We are not trying to bury our heads in the sand here. There’s an issue that needs to be addressed and we’ll do so.

 

“But I think everybody understands that Ray has a contract with Raith Rovers and that’s not going to change if Dundee United do not offer significant compensation.

 

“Without that then there is absolutely no deal to be had.”
