[FT] Rangers 2 (McKay 29; Waghorn 74) - 0 Annan Athletic

Sorry, but that's just splitting hairs over terminology. Let's agree that we disagree upon that then?

We will have to disagree then.

As mentioned in the past Stevie Smith was moved from LB to LM - if we played a 4-4-2 then moving Tav from RB to RM would be a like for like comparison.

But we don't... we play with 3 in the middle a position that Tav would/could/should never play.

But it isn't splitting hairs. A RCM is different from RM. the RCM is a central midfielder slightly off center, not a right sided midfielder. Two different positions and generally different expectations.

Regardless, we play 3 in the middle and some are suggesting moving Tav in there when we already have Barton, Rossiter, Halliday, Holt, Kranjcar, Windass, Crooks for those midfield 3 positions.

And some moaned at Ally for playing players out of position, yet would advocate playing a defender in midfield when there are at least 7 other options for 3 positions....

May I point out that in the Motherwell game, our left flank consisted of (back to front) Wallace - McKay - Forrester. And McKay sure is all but a "central midfielder". We did that quite a few times before with different players. When e.g. Miller and Waghorn were fit, we did play both with Waghorn being utilized in the right attacking midfield slot. And those are just a few examples of players not playing in their first slot of their vita.

Still, I'm not sure why people want to make a strict distinction between "right midfielders" in a 4-4-2 and 4-3-3 line-up. It solely depends on the ability of the player whether he plays further forward or not, but he remains a right-sided midfielder still, whatever the term used is. Unless he's a striker utilized on the flanks.

Its really quite refreshing to have such healthy competition in every position for the season ahead. Whatever our starting 11 is this year, we are more often than not going to have an excellent bench to turn to if we need to try change the game. I think that could be massive this season for us. Last season we had decent subs but we could all guess what subs were going to be made. We are going to have excellent quality players ready to come on to change games.
