Gordon Waddell: Rangers cup final statement laughable and only themselves to blame

Recommended Posts

It's all the more absurd when you remember the screams from certain quarters a few months back when Jason Cummings was the 'victim' of a prank happening at pools everywhere on a daily basis.

Cummings was

assaulted and almost drowned by a Rangers FC fan

Not a punch thrown but it's an "assault" and a near drowning. Also notice how they remember who we are sporadically.

You see, if people sing these song with full gusto and want to do what they are singing with all their heart, one could come up with this "there is a problem" attitude and all this "sectarianism" rubbish. But a) (and unless I am mistaken) we sing much of our stuff to annoy the Scum and out of spite and because they are good songs to sing - so at worst it is cynical banter, and b) there is this rather conspicuous West-of-Scotland definition of "sectarianism" that only refers to pro-British and anti-Irish-terrorist stuff, but nothing pro-terrorist sung by the Yahoos ... who IMHO are emotionally much deeper into their songbook as we are.

I always feel as if our songs are more akin to historical artifacts which have little to no relevance in the present day while theirs is current and in support of an outlawed terrorist group responsible for mass murder which their crowd effectively glories in. But in saying that I wish ours would stop to give them NO puerile excuses to attack us on that score.

Imagine the equivalent in the US. An American football crowd singing the praises of al-qaeda and bin laden while glorying in the mass carnage of the WTC. How would that be viewed?

And how would it be viewed in England if there were the same thing happening at English football grounds with crowds singing pro IRA and and anti British songs?

... matter of fact, the IRA et al are proscribed by British law. I wonder why e.g. the Ministry of Defence does not have a few phone calls with the SFA et al asking why the IRAoke can be heard each week at Scottish football grounds, directly aiming at British war veterans and victims of the IRA (et al) bomb terror of days gone by. Likewise, you wonder why the Ministry of Justice et al does not act according to the Terrorist Act 2006 and chase anyone who openly supports the IRA (et al) in song and tune in Britain? You understand - well not really - why certain Scottish offices and institutions do not, but Scotland still belongs to the United Kingdom, doesn't it?

Well you would think so until you cast your mind back to John Reid teaching Labour MSPs the full IRA songbook (as reported by George Galloway) and then remember Reid was Minister for the Armed Forces, Minister for Defence and Home Secretary and is now a Baron. "Proscribed" would very much appear to be an unenforced term in this case. A Minister for the Armed Forces who sang and taught songs that gleefully revelled in the killing of those Armed Forces. A Minister for Defence who sang and taught songs about destroying said defence. In that context, your questions look very differently than they do on first reading.

Aye!,as long as they don't sing bad songs cause singing bad songs is right out of order!

Au contraire, they can sing their songs while they carry out the assaults - their songs are not considered 'bad', just ours.
