Chelsea beat Man City in race to sign Rangers wonderkid Billy Gilmour

The Blues have beaten a host of clubs and they have clinched a deal for Scotland's most exciting young talent

EXCLUSIVE

Chelsea have reached an agreement to sign Rangers wonderkid Billy Gilmour, Goal understands.

'New' England don't need Rooney

The 15-year-old will move for a fee of around £500,000 in the summer after he was convinced to leave the Scottish Premiership side following a visit to Chelsea's Cobham Training Centre.

The Blues beat off competition from the likes of Arsenal, Manchester City, Manchester United, Bayern Munich and Barcelona, who all scouted the youngster. Rangers, meanwhile, were doing all they could to retain their top young talent.

He is currently too young to move but he will be able to from his next birthday, which falls on June 11.

Most disappointing and I feel a stupid move as Chelsea buy on Quantity, pick the best and throw away the unwanted

Assuming this is true ...

Hope we put in a nice sell-on clause. Even just 5% or something. Lowly Hansa Rostock did that when a very young Toni Kroos went to Bayern Munich ... and got a healthy reward later on, when he went to Spain for mega-bucks.

We probably have to live with these scenarios for quite some time, and purely pragmatically, for a Scottish club getting 500k for a 15-year old is quite handsome. Going by what they pay down there, if he behaves and develops nicely, he could stop working in 5 to 10 years time ...

Don't think we can, can we? We just get compensation but don't think we can negotiate, particularly given it's cross-border.

If true £500k is a lot of money for a 15 year old!, I don't think it would be a good move for his development, however the way Scottish football is being run/ruined I wouldn't blame the lad for wanting out of it!

Awful move for the boy. He'll be added to the dozens of young boys out on loan every year and won't play a single game for Chelsea. Whereas he could be in our first team by next year and playing competitive football at a massive club. Done wonders for McCarthy and McCarthur at Hamilton
