EXCLUSIVE: Michael O'Halloran in Rangers row after failing to turn up for game

Michael O'Halloran could be on his way out of Rangers after he seemingly refused to participate in a youth game.

by James BIack and Callum Hamilton Apr 11, 2017, 9:00am PDT

Michael O'Halloran could be set for the exit door at Rangers after he was a no-show for a youth game according to a number of sources.

Rangers' Under-20s took on Hearts last night at Forthbank, winning 2-1. But O'Halloran was due to start for the side - and ended up being a no-show.

To make matters worse, O'Halloran will have enraged not only the club's coaching staff but also a major figure in the first-team dressing room, as Kenny Miller - who was helping out with the swifts- was reported to be furious by his non-appearance.

It's been a rocky road for O'Halloran ever since Mark Warburton shelled out £500,000 for his services last January. After initially looking good in flashes, he failed to really come up with any end product and couldn't nail down a starting place in the team, despite the right wing spot being up for grabs.

Pedro Caixinha's arrival, and fondness for direct, pacy, physical wingers seemed to be the perfect opportunity for the wide man. He was hurled on at right-back against Motherwell, but it seems like his chance will already be blown after this.

Whether there's a way back for O'Halloran isn't certain as there may have been a valid reason for his no-show, but we wouldn't expect to see him starting any time soon.

Rangers were contacted for comment but have yet to respond.

Well he usually is a no show.

" Rangers forward Michael O'Halloran has been banished from training after the winger went AWOL when he should have been playing for the club’s youth team.

His Ibrox future looks to be in doubt after he failed to provide an explanation for not turning up at Forthbank on Monday night for an under-20 clash with Hearts. "

From someone who's normally in the know.

"Michael was asked to play for 20s by Pedro and as happy to do so. Pedro didnt advise when or where as he assumed youth coach would advise him. Youth coach assumed Pedro had told him. Its just been a mix up and he did not do it intentionally."

Are you referring to me?

Apologies just saw this. I was referring to journos writing negative stories about Rangers at any given opportunity... Though the stories that have emerged today suggest there could be something in this one.

Question is, where is the leak coming from?

Yep, it would be great if the club clarifies the situation, if only to avoid any more spin being put to it. Well, obviously, any such comment will see its own spin ...

While we are at it, the way news are reported by certain papers have taken over the same attitude of the likes of HITC, talkingbaws et al, i.e. clickbait stuff who give you spectacular and more often than not headlines full of conjecture. In this case: MOH's future in doubt!!!! ... because he misses a u20s game? It is no wonder that his detractors on various boards jump on that, but you would expect a more level headed approach by media outlets. Then again, this is Scotland 2017 ...

From PC's presser, MOH will not be part of the squad on Saturday but we wont be adding anything further about it. Clearly an internal disciplinary matter, so it would seem MOH has not done what was asked of him and his story wasnt accepted by PC.

It makes for a more sensational headline for the press to say he's being sacked or whatever rather than it just being an internal matter.

To be fair, I think it was his last outing where I thought there might just be a player in there somewhere.

Agreed boabie, while it is a live story that a first team player is suspended internally, the sensationalist claptrap that goes along with it is nonsense. Not sure if I see a Rangers player in MOH, but I believe if he leaves in the summer he would do a good job for a St Johnstone, Ross County type club, but I think Rangers has been too big for him. It happens with some players.

Yes it always struck me that the jersey was too heavy for him. Never met the guy but to me he came over as quiet, shy, introverted type.

Saw this on a hearts forum under a topic called 'O'halloran worth a punt?'

Nothing about him has ever made me see a player who would help take us to another level.

Always puzzles me what other 'level' the likes of them and the sheep think they can ever be on. Realistic title challengers? Never going to happen. Right now they are at their proper and permanent level and there is no realistic other 'level' they can aspire to. Being in the top 6 and trying to grab a Europa league spot is all they can aspire to. Leveled out.
