Barrie McKay has turned down an offer to extend his current Rangers deal.Sportsmail understands the Ibrox club tendered a pay rise and another two years on the 22-year-old’s existing deal last month.

With a year to run on the current agreement, however, McKay rejected an opening gambit after discussions between the club and his representatives opened in February.

Linked with a move to Bundesliga side RB Leipzig in the January window, the former Under-21 international earned his first senior Scotland cap in a friendly defeat to France last June and can talk to interested clubs about a pre-contract agreement from January, 2018.

Pedro Caixinha has yet to show his hand on which players he wants to keep. The new Rangers manager met Michael O’Halloran on Wednesday, telling the attacker to train away from the first-team squad after he missed an Under-20s game against Hearts in Stirling.

Doubts also remain over the futures of Kenny Miller — who helped beat Aberdeen 3-0 on Sunday with a double — and defender Clint Hill.

Despite parking McKay talks until the summer, the Ibrox side are likely to return to the table with an increased offer rather than allow the contract of one of their top talents to run down.

Somebody had better have a word with him pronto. He's not the finished article by a long way and if he goes it will be to the Championship where he will sink without trace. Think Lewis McLeod, Jamie Ness, Rhys McCabe....Better to develop at RFC under a technical coach like Pedro. Then he may be ready for an EP club.

If PC "...is yet to show his hand on which players he wants to keep", then why is the Club making an offer to McKay?

It seems that contradictions do not appear on the Daily Mail grammar and spelling checker.

His colleague who plays centre half (Wilson) is another prime example and could have a word with him.

Would like to see McKay sign up long term, hopefully its paper nonsense and a deal is done.

I think Barrie needs to kick on with his game, he is an experienced first team player now and is 22 years old, he has talent and on his game he rip any defence to pieces, however he doesn't do it enough for me!, maybe PC can get him to the next level of consistency?.

IMHO, Lewis Macleod and Barrie McKay haven been blessed with a similar talent. If he wants to further this and his career in e.g. England or Germany, I'd have no problem with that. And Rangers will most likely have not that great a choice. Thus, if the status quo remains, place a 6 to 8m fee on his head, and we may get 5m from some EPL of Championship side ... which will go a long way to improve the current squad. In an ideal world, I'd keep him, of course.

Given his level of performance this season, McKay appears to have already made up his mind , he no longer wishes further his game in a Rangers jersey. Notwithstanding the veracity or accuracy of this article, it may be that McKays agent has used his contacts to openly advertise his clients intentions.

As has been mentioned by others, were we to get a decent 7 figure sum for him, then I would favour its acceptance and the moneys invested in players who would turn in more consistent performances for the team.

There is no doubt McKay has talent and the potential to be a "match winner", unfortunately such performances have been very few and far between this season.

Young athlete, has talent, seeks a principled adviser.

Barrie McKay has one big negative and that is his lack of goals. When do you ever see him getting into the back-post to score like Miller does. If he could add that to his game and indeed gain more consistency. It looks like we have a direct replacement in Joe Dodoo who is a far bigger goal threat, so as has been said if we can get a good price then we should take it.
