Thomas More's Utopian Blues

Recommended Posts

Today on the main site, The Crimson Forehead (don't ask!) makes his writing début.

Can't be often someone like Thomas More is quoted as an authority on Scottish football but his historic words do see strangely salient. Enjoyed best using the formatting nuances of the main site. :)

When I read of these epistolarians and bloggers, official, semi official, completely unofficial, and the corps of fellow travelling football writers, I can think only that

Shakespeare, unsurprisingly, has each and every one of them nailed (and in The Scottish Play, forbye):

Life's but a walking shadow, a poor player

That struts and frets his hour upon the stage

And then is heard no more: it is a tale

Told by an idiot, full of sound and fury,

Signifying nothing.

We've certainly suffered the 'slings and arrows of outrageous fortune.' See what you've started?

MacBeth was clearly a dhim.

MacBeth:

Canst thou not minister to a mind diseased,

Pluck from the memory a rooted sorrow,

Raze out the written troubles of the brain,

And with some sweet oblivious antidote

Cleanse the stuffed bosom of that perilous stuff

Which weighs upon the heart?

Doctor:

Therein the patient

Must minister to himself.

MacBeth:

Throw physic to the dogs; I'll none of it.

 Shakespeare Loyal!
