McLeish tips Aberdeen for 2nd

Recommended Posts

It's our inability to play good football that sees us currently at 6th place in the league.

thats not strictly true. more our inability to grind out results.

No fan of WS brand of football and have said before on here he set his teams out not to lose. But it could hardly be described as good football.

Our inability to perform has us where we are. If we were a good football team we wouldn't be dropping points at home to Hearts and Hibs, getting pumped in Europe against minnows and surrendering to Celtic before a ball's even kicked.

Not being in Europe is only PART of the reason. Chuck Green and his cohorts blew through tens of millions on who knows what from the IPO - had that money stayed within the club we could very well be challenging by now. You are trying to use Europe in isolation, which isn't accurate.

We would have went into administration, IMHO, whether or not we qualified for the CL in 2011/12 - There is a belief, how true who knows, that Craig Whyte wanted Rangers in admin anyway so as to get the CVA approved to rid the club of the BTC. So Europe wouldn't have helped us out of admin - and then the dominoes would still have fallen.

You want to run before we can walk. We are in such a financial situation that the only realistic way we have of catching Celtic is of starving them of their European (by that read CL) riches. If we do that then they will have no option but to downsize their playing squad and wage budget. They are a million miles ahead of us financially and whilst they have Rodgers, who may not be wonderful but, like many players, finds the Scottish game easy then we have little hope of catching them whilst they still have the CL monies. Starve them of that and we see their standard drop, which makes us more competitive. THEN we can look to Europe in a realistic fashion.

European football is essential for our future. Strategic planning involves more than just looking at what's directly in front of your nose, but is something we have struggled with through my lifetime.

I don't agree we haven't developed a winning mentality. A win at all costs, win dirty mentality if you like.

When we lose a lot of our players look like they couldn't care less. Is that something Pedro can fix? Time will tell. He does need to stop defending the team though. Especially if they don't deserve it. Progres for example.

We have to fix our mindset.

So, just to be clear, changing your story from "inability to pay good football" to "inability to perform" ?????

Hoepfully you see the difference as much as the rest of us do....

If we were a good football team we wouldn't be getting beaten at home to Burnley.... But I guess your English team gets far more flexibility from you

Disagree. Like it or not, what is essential for our future is finishing above Celtic, always.
