NO INTENT

Rangers star Josh Windass insists he wasn’t hitting back at Gers fans with controversial goal celebration against Partick Thistle

The 24-year-old made a shushing gesture towards his own supporters after scoring the goal and has since apologised to Rangers boss Graeme Murty.

JOSH WINDASS has insisted he wasn’t hitting back at Rangers fans with his controversial goal celebration at Partick Thistle.

The Gers star made a shushing gesture towards his own supporters after scoring against the Jags.

Graeme Murty said afterwards that he would have a word with the midfielder about his celebration.

And the Rangers manager confirmed earlier today that Windass had apologised for it.

Now, the 24-year-old has said there was nothing malicious in the way he celebrated.

He told Sky Sports News: “There was no real reason or malice in the celebration, it was just a bit of an instinct after I’ve scored.

“I’ve seen reports saying on social media saying he was getting abuse but it was nothing to do with that.

“It was just how I was playing in the game until that point.

“I was feeling a bit frustrated and I’ve just reacted in maybe the wrong way but that happens some times in football.

“I forgot about it straight away so it’s just other people bringing it up to me so I’ll just let them talk about it and I’ll concentrate on myself.”

Hopefully this will be the end of this non-story.

Windass has been one of our best performers this season & will earn us millions when he moves back to England

I've said all along he should not have done that, however it is hardly crime of the century, if he keeps progressing like he has been doing he will become a very good player for us, or he will be sold for a decent profit, can't believe the amount of uproar this has caused!.

Just a question. If he had forgot about it straight away why was it up on twitter later?? Why didn’t he just apologise properly and then we move on?

In my book it’s complete disrespect for his own fans. That’s my last mention of it. As a few have alluded too, it’s becoming tiresome. Look forward to Sunday at Ayr:rfc:

Benteke after months of failing to hit the net and ripping the piss with his obscene wages made a gesture after finally scoring a goal. It was a hilarious moment. Windass doing a gesture after scoring against the pitiful Partick Thistle is even more hilarious.

I can't actually believe our support are trying to justify what Windass has done here. Can you actually imagine Lionel Messi netting a goal, turning round to the Camp Nou faithful and mocking them with a gesture? Please.

To me, tolerating this sort of pathetic bullshit is like how we allowed Ian Black to continue playing for us after betting against us. Or when Ashley, the Easdales et al proceeded to rip the absolute **** out of our very being, only to have supporters backing them. Standards have plummeted. Windass might have good stats this season but he was horrendous for over a year, goes missing for massive spells and he has about as much chance of ever playing in the EPL as I do.

I wouldn't have put up with van Bronkhorst, Albertz, De Boer or Ferguson gesturing to us. Similarly, I won't put up with it from an Accrington Stanley upstart.

I'm sure he's bothered
