How Rangers could lose world record this weekend
The Ibrox club set a new record in 2012 against East Stirling - but the feat looks set to be beaten in Romania this weekend.

  •
    • world record attendance for a fourth tier match with over 50,000 fans expected at a weekend derby in Romania.

The Ibrox club set a new record in August 2012, when 49,118 watched their 5-1 win over East Stirling in the Third Division.
That meant Rangers smashed the previous record of 37,774 for a game between Crystal Palace and Millwall at Selhurst Park in 1961 in the old English Fourth Division.

However, a bizarre situation in Romania means their record looks set to be beaten at a match in their Liga IV this weekend.

CSA Steaua will play Academia Rapid in a league match, which will be held at Bucharest's Arena Nationala.

There were huge queues for tickets and already 45,000 have been sold, with the capacity of 55,000 expected to be reached.

And it's all because of the collapse of great rivals Steaua Bucharest and Rapid Bucharest, with both teams now broken into different fractions.

Former European Cup winners Steaua have been torn apart by in-fighting after numerous court cases and while a club called FCSB still plays in the top tier, CSA Steaua reinvented themselves in Romanian football's bottom tier and have taken the vast majority of their huge support with them and also claim their history.
Rivals Rapid Bucharest went bankrupt two years and split into fragments.

Academia Rapid play in their bottom tier too and also carry the huge support of Rapid.

And they are set for a remarkable bumper crowd this weekend which is set to surpass Rangers' six-year record.
