He clearly contributes.  Is he a world beater? No of course not. But we need players that can contribute and Lafferty fits that bill.

What that contribution is, depends on the players position.  We are needing an alternative to cover Freddo, in case he's injured, suspended or needing a break.  Therefore Lafferty's contribution ultimately has to be goals - I'm not convinced that Lafferty is the man to provide those goals when called upon - especially if he isn't playing week in, week out.

Erik Pieters of Stoke being mentioned, 30 year old CD. What would his wages be even in the championship?

I think we may be able to compete with most Championship clubs outside those who have just dropped down in the past 2 or 3 years and are receiving parachute payments. EPL clubs can still make a profit running into tens of millions if they had no gate money at all. So given they do have gate money they can be flush with cash for a few years afterwards even without the bonus of parachute payments.

No, we can't.  Some of those clubs, even the likes of Leeds and Notts Forest, are paying players far in excess of what we can.

Not necessarily.

Championship clubs receive the same fixed Basic Award from the TV deals and a Solidarity Payment, which is part of a trickledown agreement with the Premier League.

Each Championship team will get a basic £2.3m plus a £4.5m solidarity payment. So that’s £6.7m

Make this Europa league group stage and we can more than compete with them. Chances are we already banked a minimum 3 million in gate money from the 3 qualifying rounds home ties we have played.

Craig is correct.  We can't compete with Championship clubs when it comes to wages.

Why? Their TV money isn't EPL , £6.7m apparently.

An when talking season tickets we have sold more than twice as many as Leeds and Leeds will have no European income at all plus all things being equal have brief cup runs. I would also hazard a guess that we can massively outsell any Championship club and most EPL teams too in terms of merchandising.

What extra income do they have we don't?

We get nowhere near that for TV money and then there's the ticket prices.

So if we make the Europa league group stages then we more than beat their TV money and have probably already banked between 3 and 4 million from home Euro gates. And that's aside from the fact we sold more than double the season tickets.
