I'm as optimistic as you can get when it comes to players, any player, but Sadiq is brutal; the boy's a donkey. 

 

(He played in the Semi because Morelos and Lafferty were unavailable. There was literally no one else.)

Yes Dowell. Looks to me like the style of player people are wanting, and from a few clips on YouTube certainly looks like he has it in his locker. He seems to specialise in the defence splitting pass. 

 

I wouldn’t say Davis is that style of player. He’s apparently been playing holding midfield lately for Southampton too. If we sign Davis, even on loan, I hope someone will be leaving because we have too many centre mids.

I've not seen anything of Dowell.

 

I've been saying as much about Davis since he's been linked. I can still see him playing as a 10 for us, with more defensive players behind as the legs.

I specifically wrote: he looks like an English power-house centre forward a la Hateley  ? He obviously is no Hateley and I would assume that Hateley-type English strikers with international experience are hard to come by these days.

 

Obviously, Eaves hammers them in right now in a league that is not too different from the Premiership (which is our bred  and butter), AND has only 6 months of his contract left. You see the thinking behind that link (whether it is actually true or not). He looks far too similar to Lafferty though and I cannot exactly see us play both (not least when we are not even playing Morelos and Lafferty alongside one another). The media also try to tell us that Solanke is coming our way, but with him it is the same case as with Ejaria et al, you simply don't know what you can expect from loaned youngsters in a totally different, highly competitive environment.

 

On the same note, should we lose to the Scum on the 29th, I would not be surprised if we will actually see the back of Morelos and a double million figure transfer purse arriving at our doorstep.

 

Does our resident informer has any news about the numbers targetted or where we look?

Back in the day of Lothar Matthäus(Bayern / Germany) I noted that he wore the 10. For me though, the 10 is the number of the second centre-forward alongside a 9. And IMHO, that is how we should play in most of our Scottish games - i.e. two centre-forwards.

Before your time, dB, but on your definition of a 10, the exemplar is Ralph Brand. He had his 82nd birthday the other day so I suppose it would be asking too much to bring him back.

Am I the only one that is completely left cold with us being linked with 6 foot 5 striker? We need a striker with craft, that can hold the ball and play other players into the game. The idea of introducing a tall striker just gives me the impression that we will end up going route one and insist with this nonsense tactic of lumping balls into the box ad nauseum. How many crosses do we have to put over before we get that it doesn't work?

 

6 foot 5 Eaves? No thanks. I'd rather go for the Shankland at Ayr United.

Eaves aside, I think a striker with genuine aerial ability is common sense when you have crossers like Barisic, Middleton and Tavernier in the team. There’s no need to associate a tall striker with poor quality and style of football, Bayern have shown how to properly use a targetman for years.

Granted but with all due respect, Bayern are not shopping in League 1. It's true we have good crossers of the ball but it's the type of crosses that is our downfall. We insist on putting speculative crosses into the area which are easily lapped up by the goalie or a CB. By all means I want Middleton, Barasic and co to deliver decent balls in but not in the air. I want them to get to the byline and play balls into the danger area on the ground (like Laffertys offside goal on v Dundee).
