That is only so if he wasnt going to sign a pre-contract.  And it could be this is why we paid the fee..... however, will we hear of anyone complaining that he wasnt committed if he wasnt going to sign a pre-contract ?

He did not sign a pre contract.   I believe it was a deal as he wanted to be playing and fit before the Euros.  There were plenty of others after him if we didn't stump up.  Basically now or never.

That is my understanding as well. He wasn't interested in pre contract deals but rather wanted a deal which would allow him to play now rather in the summer to benefit his International aspirations. Several German clubs were circling to offer PC deals when window closes. There was a risk we would lose him if we waited until the summer due to bigger clubs offering better terms financial terms. Now or never for sure!

My thoughts exactly. The fact a bosman wasn’t signed prior to signing proves to me that he wasn’t interested in waiting till the summer.

The signing of Cantwell and now Raskin seems to suggest that Jack, Arfield & Davis won’t be offered new deals at the end of the season

Raskin replaces Davis

Cantwell and Tillman replace Arfield

I’m fairly certain of those.

Jack hasn’t been replaced and will renew for a year on a reduced wage I think. I think the funds available will be used in the summer for priority positions like goalkeeper, centre forward, centre back and possibly right-forward (Whittaker or similar).

All those positions are now higher priority than centre mid so renewing Jack for a year will be seen as a sensible move.

Okay, if you say so.  Should just stick with the current underperformers and limp to the end of the season then.

Since Beale has come in we are winning games of football (all but one draw).

Generally mediocre performances but doing enough.

We have players coming back from injury, eg. Hagi at the weekend.

We have already brought in Cantwell.

We are second in the League after 23 games and will be second after 38.

We have a League Cup Final where we can be competitive regardless of squad additions.

There ia absolutely NO guarrantee that additions = win the Cup and an OF Cup Final could pass a new player by, very easily.

We will beat Partick Thistle in the Cup and reach the SC quarters, factoid.

The reality of our financial situation has essentially had the can kicked down the road for years.

The strategy of funded constructive losses was extended, mainly down to Covid.

There is always a reason for kicking the can further down the road but there comes a point when reality has to kick in. New UEFA regulations and monitoring mean that time is getting closer.

The board are going to have to find a way to finance a squad rebuild this year, that takes us to a better level and becoming competitive for a title challenge. How the board do that will be interesting as we don't have obvious incoming significant transfer fees.

The manager indicated that he wants Tillman, so that will be somewhere around 5M, to stay as we are.

History tells us that fans speculating on what the precise reality was in things like fees, contract clauses, other interested clubs, what really motivates a player, etc..... is like pishing in the wind.

The one thing we can be sure about is that he will our player.

The positive is that it appears (never seen him) he is a very decent, young and energetic midfielder.
