I don't know, but I think, while acknowledging that he has to have an all-round game, or at least significant elements of it, that a 'striker' has to 'strike' ie score goals. 

Here is Roberto de Zerbi, a fellow who knows a thing or two about football, maybe even more than folk on here, hard as that may be to believe, on his star striker, seemingly agreeing:
