DaMarcus Beasley will miss the first leg of Rangers FC's UEFA Champions League second qualifying tie after being ruled out for three weeks with a hamstring injury.

'Obviously disappointing'

The 26-year-old United States international winger limped out of last night's 1-0 friendly win against German side SC Preussen M¼nster and the extent of the injury means he will miss the first leg against the winner of the tie between FC Santa Coloma or FBK Kaunas at Ibrox on 30 July. "Da Marcus's injury looks as if it will rule him out for a few weeks which is obviously disappointing," said manager Walter Smith, who led Rangers to the final of last season's UEFA Cup, where they lost 2-0 to FC Zenit St. Petersburg.

Ferguson operation

The Rangers manager is already without Barry Ferguson with the captain scheduled to have an operation in London today on an ankle problem which will keep him on the sidelines until the end of October. Smith added: "It is an unusual operation in the sense that footballers don't normally have this type of injury but the specialist says that it's not too difficult. Tendons normally tear or become detached but his is split down the middle. When he was moving his ankle the tendon was secured at the ends, but it was opening in the middle and that was what was causing the pain."

Dissapointing that he will miss the opening qualifier so hopefully he makes a speedy recovery.

Season still a while away and we're already without Fergie, Beasley, NAismith, Burke, Ferguson - anyone else? Maybe an 80 man squad is a good idea.

Without Fergie and FERGUSON  One more injury I never knew about:fish:

We never seem to get wee niggly injuries. Anytime someone gets an injury it's always 'he's out for at least 3 weeks'
