I know what you mean democracy is VERY important but it is equally important to note that a membership scheme is just that it is NOT an investment in the club inasmuch as it does not confer any ownership rights (because we are a plc with shares). Barcelona and Real Madrid members DO own the clubs, Barcelona is organised as an association not a company. It is not possible to buy shares only membership, and it is owned by its 170,000 members; and the German 50+1 model also is different, whereby the association or club has to have a controlling stake, commercial interests can't gain control. In Bayern Munich, for example, Audi and Adidas each own 9% but the other 82% is controlled by the members via the club.

And it has the means to do that at little or no cost principally through the web site, programmes, magazine, match day announcements, score board, the Assembly, Association, Trust, NARSA every registered supporters club etc. etc.

My personal opinion is that every member should be an ordinary member, one member one vote etc. It would be possible to add additional benefits for a higher fee but I think that gets into very dangerous territory. This was one of the issues with a share scheme because those who could afford to buy more demanded more in return. I would strongly suggest that for the first two or three years everyone (except perhaps founding season ticket holders as described above) should pay the same and get the same benefits. Thereafter if there was demand for greater benefits these could be considered at an appropriate price.

Overseas membership and others who cannot attend regularly is a particularly strong reason why a membership scheme would most likely succeed. Partick Thistle have got one for goodness sake (£0 - £120), so why can't we have one too? As examples of other prices: Liverpool £35; Cardiff £30 - £40; Barcelona 88 Euros, Real Madrid approx. 140 Euros.

Firstly thanks for all the thanks. Secondly, I agree with Sairdy, a new membership scheme, which would obviously require the support of the Club, need not and in my opinion should not pamper to any internecine rivalries of the past; instead a membership scheme would unite all fans (or at least all fans who would want to be members, which I would think would be the vast majority) under one banner. That is not to say that the existing groupings would disappear, clearly there would still need to be a body such as the Association to represent Supporters Clubs, for example; and the Trust or some similar body to represent small shareholders. The need for an Assembly as well, might be less clear. But as in the Hamburg model, the supporters could elect different Boards or Committees to liaise with the Club on different issues, e.g. away match ticketing, Travel Club (in due course!); instead of these being picked by the Club form a select group of individuals who may or may not be representative, as happens at the moment. Ultimately, of course, if you look to Clubs like Barcelona, the fans might actually elect the football club President and there might be a separate Board for the company/plc and the football club, where supporters could and should be represented as per my OP. These are just some thoughts to stimulate debate but if there is seen to be strong support here and on other forums then the club might be persuaded to follow through or develop any plans that they already have in development.

I had a very good meeting today with Arnold Black, who wrote the article that was published recently about a membership scheme. I proposed this some years ago at the Club’s AGM and it was also discussed but not pursued (because we were promoting the share scheme) when I was Secretary of RST. Arnold is of the opinion that fans should put their support behind any current or new director who promotes a membership scheme. In order to get a scheme off to the best possible start we are of the opinion that all season ticket holders (next season) should be automatically enrolled as club members.* This would guarantee more or less 35,000 club members with little or no effort on the part of the club. Arnold’s thought is that there should be no membership fee for those enrolling this way at least in the first season; my own feeling is that at least a nominal amount (to be deducted from season ticket monies) or an additional £10 fee (to be added to the season ticket price) should apply; otherwise everyone would have to be granted free membership. Whilst free membership is sometimes attractive (as with the FC United of Manchester model) it artificially inflates the true membership numbers. Realistically, however, going forward the fee would need to be at least £5 per month or say £50 - £60 pa. We take the view that an initial worldwide target of 100,000 members and £1,000,000 - £5,000,000 a year is not unreasonable. This could be ring fenced for special projects within the club. Possible benefits of membership might be: • Discounts from Rangers’ sponsors and suppliers • Offers from the Club e.g. discount on Rangers TV • Membership Certificate, badge etc. • Priority/Discounted Ticket purchase (Note that in some countries e.g. Boca Juniors in Argentina, only members can buy tickets or certain categories of tickets). • Meet players and other exclusive events • Monthly prize draw • Discounts in restaurants etc. • *In future you might have to be a member to buy a season ticket. The proposal would be that the members would elect a Supporters Board (as in the Hamburg model) and that that Board would elect one or two members to the Club Board.

I don't think you need have any fears of that. I am told that Walter suggested it after Green left but that Traynor and others advised against.

Martin Bain is currently a Director of Vicast Ltd a company he registered last October and Jacqueline Gourlay (the former sole Trustee of the Rangers Charity Foundation) and Bain's right hand woman at Ibrox, is the Head of Finance and Planning. One of the Directors of Vicast Ltd is a certain John McClelland OBE, lately Deputy Chair and sometime Chair of Rangers FC. McClelland is the current Chair of the Scottish Funding Council which promotes Further and Higher Education. On their website he lists his directorship of Vicast as a "significant shareholding in a private company which might give rise to a conflict of interest or trust." (in SFC). According to their web site Vicast Solutions include "An internet TV service bearing your brand’s identity (which) enables you to really engage your viewers and convert more site visitors into customers." and "Vicast offers the perfect solution for sports clubs, entertainment venues and events organisations. Live streaming and recordable live facilities make it simple to broadcast a match, sporting event, concert or performance." The other Directors of Vicast are: another former Rangers employee, Nicola Young and a certain Mr Paul Murray. This information is all publicly available.

When Do The Board Meet To Discuss Green?
BrahimHemdani replied to chilledbear's topic in Rangers Chat
No one (not even WS it seems) was there purely and simply for the good of the Club everyone just wanted a fast buck, some faster than others. -
As others have said, McColl and Blin are respected business men, but McColl's Rangers credentials are unclear, although Blin is reputed to be a fan. However, P Murray evokes mixed emotions as part of the previous failed board, the unseated BK's and questions over what he actually brings to the table (some would say nothing at all). Better than the current money grabbing incumbents, doesn't seem to be in doubt; but as Frankie says, we need to know a great deal more about their individual intentions and group plans before rushing to a judgement.

I just wonder if someone we know is being lined up for a return to the hot seat; but more on that anon. -
You and I are in the same camp on that one, 54+; people forget all too easily that we had the privilege top watch some of the best players in the world in a royal blue jersey and were one goal away from the Champions League Final; but realistically the answer to your question is - probably not in our lifetimes.

Quite insulting really, if that's true, shows that fans are still just a bit of a nuisance as far as the Board are concerned. -
That makes sense to me. My information is that the investors are not willing to pay more than 20p per share and for now their preferred option is an EGM. With all the institutional investors on side the numbers should stack up for them though the threat from DK to buy new shares and devalue may force some into selling though not sure Zeus or any of their party have the cash or the will to chuck more money at it.

When Do The Board Meet To Discuss Green?
BrahimHemdani replied to chilledbear's topic in Rangers Chat
Based solely on a second hand report of the meeting, it has been suggested to me that Mather was simply reacting to a fan's question "on the hoof"; so it is not clear what his actual intentions were/are in that respect.
