  1. A little bit of caution might be in order here, actually he only scored 6 in 41 games for Preston in the Championship last season, the rest of the "57 goals in 148" came for them in League One. His record at Nottingham Forrest in the Championship was 10 in 55 (mostly in 2008/09) and with Watford only 1 in 27. So overall in the Championship he's scored 17 in 123 or a goal every 7 games or so which puts him a little behind Waghorn who scored 28 in 155 at that level (goal every 5.5 games) . https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Joe_Garner That said if he is as good or almost as good as Waghorn then that might just be what we need and it sounds like a bargain deal.
  2. I will concede that you make some good points here. The reference to the poll was just an indication of opinion on here nothing more. I disagree about Waghorn, as I've said before he was a proven Championship player with Leicester and Wigan as well as Hull and Millwall on loan and whilst he only scored 1 in every 5 games in England he has proven he can score more at Championship level here. Time will tell what he can do in the SPFL. I agree that Halliday didn't break through at Championship level but I think he found or would have found his level in League One and was one of our better players last season. It's also true that some players however good their pedigree simply don't settle at a new club, don't get on with the manager, can't adopt to the style of play, get injured etc etc and vice versa.
  3. Yes, Kiernan and Wilson are better than Kiernan and Hill and although I liked Wilson and Hill, I agree that Kiernan and Hill are the best we've got but I think most everyone agrees that they are not good enough. Personally I prefer Wilson to Kiernan but that's a bit like saying who I would vote for if I had a vote in the American election.
  4. Perhaps an edit to "terrible" might be appropriate. This goal is a fitting tribute to a fine player. https://amp.twimg.com/v/cb82fced-5e9e-4f21-ac88-961bceb605cb
  5. Senderos is unemployed at the moment so I think he'll take what he can get.
  6. He would surely be a more certain starter than Hill. But the real issue for me at CB (apart from the fact that we need one) is that MW seems wedded to Kiernan (even to the extent of making him captain for the night v Peterhead), who finished bottom of our poll and whose record shows that he couldn't make it at English Championship level.
  7. Impressive research proves your case, though I am still unconvinced that Barton is "top notch", a good quality, top quality even perhaps EPL player, but "top notch", not quite so sure.
  8. Yes indeed, that was an emergency whatever MW says now, as soon as Forrester put in the third foul, (2nd after booking) MW turned to the bench and signalled for the substitution.
  9. I think there's a fair measure of truth in what you say but it applies both ways. In 2014 Rangers some fans carried Israeli flags to Derby for the friendly and I posted at the time that "The lad who I pictured with the Israeli flags on the train to Derby said he was Jewish but when I asked him and his mates about it they said that it was (a) because THEY have been getting away with IT for years (which is no reason at all in my book) and (b) because they supported Israel's right to defend itself (which has nothing whatsoever to do with football in my book)." There's no place for politics in football and UEFA will rightly come down heavily on any such displays.
  10. I think the Barton one is actually the biggest coup because he would have captained Burnley in the EPL. Whilst Kranjcar has the highest pedigree and the best quality for whatever reason he had dropped down to the second level in America so it was a chance for him to get back to reasonable level in Europe when I'm not sure if anyone in the EPL would have taken him. Rossiter and Dodoo obviously see this as a chance to get first team football and further their careers, so they are win win situations. These are all good players which makes you wonder about Hill, who had a good career but is clearly past his sell buy.
  11. Senderos has hardly kicked a ball for the past two seasons, and he was injured for 6 months of the 2014/15 campaign with Valencia. He would be a massive gamble but his International and European pedigree may be worth it on a pay per game or short term deal. Hill is not the answer and clearly MW still sees Kiernan and Wilson as his best current options, so Senderos may be a s good as it gets.
  12. If someone is offering £2.5m, say a 1,250% increase on what we paid, then I'd say take it in a heartbeat. Whether Tavernier or anyone else for that matter would want to play in Turkey right now is another matter and there's the small matter of getting paid as McGregor found out.
  13. It wan't quite like Bremen, but you are sh*tting yourself every time we have to defend a corner.
  14. The referee was correct as far as that incident was concerned. There is time added on to take a penalty kick but not a free kick. The only issue might be if there was time to be added for injuries but I assume the fourth official deemed otherwise. Like TB I am really struggling with these pre-planned 60th minute substitutions; very often it seems to me those on the pitch are doing well enough and subbing them just for the sake of giving others some game time can be counter-productive when it disturbs the rhythm of the team. (Though I would certainly be looking at Miller, surely those on the side-lines can tell if he's looking fatigued and it won't necessarily always be after 60 mins, it might be earlier or later or not at all.) Quite why MW needed help in holding back the third substitution is beyond me. There is every chance that if he hadn't made the third sub before Waghorn got injured v Hamilton we would have gone on to win the match. It's one thing if we are winning 3 or 4-0 with 10-15 minutes to go but quite another at 1-1. What if the goalkeeper had been injured?
  15. I don't think there's any great Celtic v Rangers divide in the Glasgow Jewish Community, although you might expect with the Jewish Community mainly in the south side of the city, they would tend towards Rangers rather than Celtic. In fact going back to the 50's and 60's most were Third Lanark supporters (and some Queens Park) as they were the nearest team to the Gorbals where the Jewish Community were first based. That said I am fairly sure that Celtic had and may still have sizeable support in the Jewish Community. In Sep 1962 the Glasgow Jewish businessman Max Benjamin, a well known Celtic fan, arranged the Celtic v Real Madrid friendly for the aptly named "Blue and White Trophy" (I hesitate to post a link to a Celtic web site) . The "Blue and White" charity was a fund that supported the Jewish National Fund a Jewish charity. Quite apart from the embarrassment to Glasgow and Scotland and the terrible comments about Nir Biton, I am sure that any Jewish fans of Celtic will be appalled at their Club being used in this way. It wouldn't surprise me in the least to see a counter demonstration and some Israeli flags in the stands. Of course we have also been victims of this in the past http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/scotland/glasgow_and_west/6658003.stm
  16. Given that, as you say, he is all right foot, which limits his ability to cross into the box, as per Wallace, I thought it was a very sound performance. It would be interesting to know his average pass distance, which I think will be only 10-15 yards and undoubtedly helped his 100% completion rate. He is obviously a right back but can stand in, on the left, the real question is can he displace Tavernier from the team? It looks like Tavernier has stepped up his game, knowing that there is now real competition for his place.
  17. Forrester and Rossiter (now there's a double act) are going to be hard to dislodge from this team; but Kranjcar is pure quality, speaking to the guy next to me I am not the only one to make the comparison with Ronald de Boer. Once he gets match fit and the others get on his wavelength he will control our forward play AND score goals. Barton will always start I'm fairly sure, so my feeling is that ultimately Halliday may be the one to lose out, never mind Holt, Windass and Crooks. Tavernier has definitely upped his defensive game, no coincidence he now has competition for his place. Miller showed he can still do it. What was McCoist's goals to chances ratio?
  18. Can someone please show him how to tie his tie
  19. The one incident has nothing to do with the other. It was too far from me to tell but I'll look at it on the replay and you can phone me later. :
  20. That must be about the most crap excuse for missing 20 mins ever. Get your hair cut BEFORE the game FGS.
  21. Blame me. I blew it past the post to preserve my 2-1.
  22. They don't need to phone anyone he SHOULD have been sent off.
  23. We are definitely not zonal we go man for man but seem to have trouble determining who is supposed to mark which man. In addition we don't have a commanding goalkeeper who can be relied on to come and Yale the ball in the 6 yard box.
  24. Should have taken Forrester at that point as he had been booked and committed another blatant foul in the corner of the box. Very fortunate not to have been sent off then or after his next foul which immediately led to his substitution.
  25. Depends on the number who are registered for away tickets which in the past has been around 11,000 plus supporters clubs, sponsors etc and the allocation for each game. We get approx 7,000 for Parkhead so most seasons you'll get at least one. Over the season you'll get about a third to a half of the games. Once tbe Ticket Office know the allocations in the first half they'll send you an email with your games for the second half.
