42 Cautionable Offences There are seven offences for which a player is cautioned and shown the yellow card if he: 1. is guilty of unsporting behaviour 2. shows dissent by word or action 3. persistently infringes the Laws of the Game 4. delays the restart of play 5. fails to respect the required distance when play is restarted with a corner kick, free kick or throw-in 6. enters or re-enters the field of play without the referee’s permission 7. deliberately leaves the field of play without the referee’s permission

If it's unintentional then it's not an offence.

I didn't see it but if there was a deliberate elbow in the throat there's no doubt it's an ordering of offence. Thhere seems to be a growing tendency to award a caution (yellow card) for a hand or elbow to the face or head. To me it's either accidental in which case no action or deliberate in which case it's violent conduct and hence a red card. Trying to establish degrees of violence in this connection is an impossible task. If you hit someone in the head, face or neck and in the referee's opinion it's delibarate, it is violent conduct, end off story.

I once refereed a reserve game at Ibrox when big Doug Rouvie took the ball of Tommy McLean from behind and ran on to score the third or fourth goal in 4-0 win for Aberdeen. At the KO, McLean said to Rougvie "I'm going to kill you big man".

I'm about to post the SFA response about the powers of the CO on the match thread.

That's not what McCall said at the time.

Calscot, you are an inteliigent chap and leaving the rights and wrongs of the Motherwell incident aside and his horrendous record at Southend (was his "tackle on the Northampton player not an assault?), you must accept that Mohsni was an embarrassment to our Club. Have you forgotten his after match red card v Airdrie in Jan 14, his flying head butt at Derby, his violent conduct v HIbs in September in Sep 14 and his gestures and comments and towards our own fans? http://www.skysports.com/football/news/11788/9872013/a-look-at-the-rap-sheet-of-rangers-defender-bilel-moshni-after-motherwell-brawl

Perhaps someone should make a complaint of assault to the Police; but Rangers won't do it because it's a can of worms.

I think you are correct and I tried to answer this from the perspective of a former referee (me) at#120 in the match thread http://www.gersnetonline.co.uk/vb/showthread.php?73535-Petrofac-Cup-1-4-Final-Rangers-1-0-Livingston-%28Clark-75%29&p=591767#post591767 I have had a reply from the SFA and will post on the match thread as soon as I get through here.

For the unitiated what is an "Embedded HTML"? If it's a form of sexual deviation can I have the same privilege

My understanding is that St Mirren sold most of the tickets direct to the RSA who distributed them to SC's. I think Rangers only had about 1,000+.

I've re-opened this thread now that the Boxing Day game v Hibernian has been moved to Monday, December 28 2015 KO 3:00pm, I just wondered if that might be a better day to have the dinner, especially as it would mean we could almost certainly get a restaurant to ourselves after the match. However if everyone is content with Saturday 30 January 2016 (subject to the fixture not being moved and time to be determined by KO time) then that's perfectly fine. Either way I'll try to move ahead with arrangements in the next couple of weeks, starting with a poll for venue, once I've spoken to the two obvious contenders.

Apparently he has a wrist injury, picked up in training and in any event, his pen ran out of ink.

And I'll settle for one!

The facts are that Eustace has only played one full season in the last three. He only played 7 games in 2012-13 with Watford, 39 with Derby in 2013-14 and 14 in 2014-15 till his serious knee cartilage injury. It was the same early in his career: " He missed the rest of the 2004–05 season and all of the 2005–06 season because of the (knee) injury." (Don't know if it's the same knee.) If you look at his stats he has really only played 4 full seasons (3 with Watford) in the past 13 years. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Eustace He may well have admirable qualities but this looks like a massive gamble to me. I hope he's on a pay per play deal or at least a deal with a low basic and appearance money.
-
I would suggest that quality is relevant here, we're not planning to bring back McCulloch now just because he's 37 and still registered as a player.
-
That's fine, Craig; but I didn't suggest those players were not working out, I suggested that Eustace might be piggy-backing on their deal. That said, personally I am not convinced by Kiernan but I'm more than happy with the other two.
-
No it doesn't and yes it is; but I just don't see this as the way forward.
-
David Weir played 50+ games for Scotland, captaining the national side 4 times; how many times has Eustace played for England?
-
This is all true but I don't think John Eustace can be compared with Paulo Maldini or even Gordon Strachan for that matter.
-
Yes, I forgot Zelalem; but you're surely not comparing Kiernan, Tavernier, Waghorn with Walcott, Jordan Henderson and Phil Jones etc? The players we have acquired are doing very well for us at the level we are contesting at present but I'm told we only got them because KSM had a player that Wigan wanted. It would be naive to think that Warburton suddenly identified them all as hidden gems. It wouldn't surprise me in the slightest if Eustace was part of the "deal". I know we have talked about the need for a defensive midfield player but does anyone seriously think that the team we have now isn't going to win the League? If the answer to that is "No", then why take a chance on a 36 year old who's been out the game for nine months with a serious knee injury?
