Rangers could face punishment over sectarian chanting
BrahimHemdani replied to ian1964's topic in Rangers Chat
I can't agree with that comment. I'm sure lots of people are offended if they hear FTP and as many or more are offended when they hear songs sung in praise of the IRA, calling Rangers fans huns etc. I think it is useful in this context to remember that the law was introduced for two principal reasons: 1) because offences that would have resulted in a successful prosecution for breach of the peace if committed in the street could not be successfully prosecuted inside a football stadium because the defense was that it was just banter. 2) these songs were broadcast loud and clear around the world, doing tremendous damage to our reputation as a civilised society. -
Rangers to appeal against Andy Halliday red card
BrahimHemdani replied to ian1964's topic in Rangers Chat
If you read that literally, then Halliday has no case to answer and the appeal is a formality because I suspect that the rules do not allow the Compliance Officer to rescind the red card without a hearing. That said, the shoulder charge itself was border line violent, and may well merit a yellow card, so that might be the outcome. Furthermore, it is entirley possible that the referee ALSO dismissed him for the kick, in which case the outcome will be different; unless as I suggested earlier it is seen more as a "kicking gesture", in which case IF he was also sent off for violent conduct in respect of the kick, that MAY be reduced to a yellow card. Again, if the offence(s) are both deemed worthy of a yellow, then 2 yellows make a red, even when they are in quick succession and the first yellow has not been administered. (see also #8) So there are a still a range of possible outcomes and I am sure that Rangers and Halliday would gladly accept one yellow overall because it was a doubly bad reaction, albeit he took a kick on the ankle from behind. -
The song "Penny Arcade" was one of the very few that Roy Orbison recorded but did not write. It was written in 1969 by Sammy King. King denies that Roy Orbison only paid him £5 for it. I don't know what started it but I'm fairly sure it was the Roy Orbison version that was played first and caught on at Ibrox. I believe you are correct inasmuch as Simon Leslie had a hand in persauding the then 69-year old King to record it as Rangers charity song in 2011 and from then on that became the version that was played.

Transfer Deadline Day: Michael O'Halloran signs until 2020

I don't want any more from Accrington, Kiernan is quite enough. -

Tavernier played most of his time in recent seasons for the likes of Carlisle United (loan) 2011–12 League One Sheffield Wednesday (loan) 2011–12 League One Milton Keynes Dons (loan) 2011–12 League One Shrewsbury Town (loan) 2013–14 League One Rotherham United (loan) 2013–14 League One Bristol City 2014-15 League One Conclusion: he's a League One player. Forrester managed 7 starts for Doncaster last season in the Championship and 9 this season for them in League One; no wonder he's excited about the prospect of playing football never mind coming here. -
Rangers could face punishment over sectarian chanting
BrahimHemdani replied to ian1964's topic in Rangers Chat
That is very true but it's a song of yesteryear and has rightly been banned for all the reasons already stated. Why not have a campiagn to bring back Follow Follow in its original form: Though the straits be broad or narrow, follow we will, Follow we will, follow we will, If the straits be broad or narrow, follow we will, We will follow in the footsteps of our team. [God bless them] Follow follow, we will follow Rangers, Everywhere, anywhere, We will follow on, Dundee, Hamilton, Aberdeen and back again If they go to Dublin we will follow on. For there's not a team like the Glasgow Rangers, No not one, and there never shall be one, Celtic know all about their troubles, We will fight till the day is done. For there's not a team like the Glasgow Rangers, No not one, and there never shall be one! I realise that some might try to sing the banned substitute words in place of those highlighted but the difference between FF and the TBB's is that the former in its original form is perfectly acceptable the latter is not in any form. -

Perhaps so but it's obvious we need to do more. -

UEFA fine and warn Rangers over sectarian singing by fans Governing body throws out original 'not guilty' verdict http://www.heraldscotland.com/news/12435079.UEFA_fine_and_warn_Rangers_over_sectarian_singing_by_fans_Governing_body_throws_out_original__apos_not_guilty_apos__verdict/ It's worse than unfortunate that this particular piece of our history has been resurrected and singing it with some altered words makes no difference for two reasons: 1) The song itslef is banned 2) There will always be some who will sing the original words. Time we called time on this for once and for all. -
Rangers to appeal against Andy Halliday red card
BrahimHemdani replied to ian1964's topic in Rangers Chat
Fyvie clips his right heel from behind, a foul no doubt, a bad foul perhaps, possibly deserving a yellow card, but not the worst you'll ever see. Halliday kicks out, again not the worst kick you'll ever see but a kick nonetheless and a red card almost certainly; compounded by his further aggressive motion towards the Hibs player. The aggressive action alone would probably have been a yellow card, in fact both might have been yellow carded at that point. From the referee's position it looks like ahead butt, confirmed by Fyvie's reaction. So in the referee's mind for sure it's a certain red probably reported as a kick AND a head butt. Objectively, either the kick out or the shoulder action would merit a yellow, taken together they might constitute a red. Fyvie should be charged and banned for simulating injury a la Kyle Lafferty. I doubt Halliday will get off because the kick is quite blatant. However, if it's seen as a "kicking gesture" then it might be downgraded to a yellow; but with the shoulder charge, it may be seen as a red all the same. I would have preferred MW to come out and say that whilst Halliday was fouled he should not have recated in that way and could easily have cost the team one or two points and will be fined accordingly. -
I'm not qualified to say if he's ever going to make it as a top football player; but IMO he's not what we need right now.
-
That's why I can't believe we've extended the deal; or more accurately if my source is correct we did not or are not planning to activate the break clause. However, if he doesn't play for a few weeks, then he may get tired of being here, hopefully.
-
NO. I've already admitted that was my poetic license, correct up until today and thank goodness proven wrong. Unlike some on here I admit my mistakes, well some of them.
-
Ronnie McKinnon was the best at tackling back that I have ever seen, he seemed to be able to extend his legs as if on jet springs. If anyone of that era was a no nonsense player I'd say it was Colin Jackson. Make no mistake, McKinnon was an imperious centre half who could play more than a bit of football.
-
And everyone knows you're not a cynic Craig. The source is the same one as told me we are paying £6,500 per week of his £18,500 per week contract; so far no one has refuted that.
-
The information I have obtained from Arsenal about Zelalem is that Hopefully we don't buy him.
-
Yes I was going to come on to admit defeat on that one; but I think I'm right in saying today was the first time he was fit and didn't play.
-
His comments about the team in general and Tavernier and Zelalem in particular are spot on. Most telling perhaps is that our CB's are just NOT commanding. Think back to our best teams of recent years, we had Cuellar, Amoruso, Gough, Butcher and earlier Woodburn, Young, Meiklejohn, not to mention Ronnie McKinnon and Colin Jackson. They WERE commanding CB's. Now we have Rob Kiernan lately of Accrington Stanley, Burton Albion and Southend and Danny Wilson who doesn't seem anything like the player who left us five years ago. We've got a good goalie, now we need a top quality CB in front of him.

The bottom line on the OP question is a resounding; NO

That may well be, but we need it NOW.

I went by Ibrox this morning. The wreath is a bit the worse for wear now but I attached a copy of Craig's note of condolence, set it up again; and secured it to the rail with a couple of the scarves that were there. It may last another few days.

If he can't find it with us in our current situation , where IS he going to find it?
-
No problem with that MacK, it's all about opinions. I think the one we got probably WAS a penalty, although the referee could not have seen the actual hand ball (if it was handled) and I think he gave it more on instinct than anything else. I have a feeling that it might be seen as "Cullum's "turn" so to speak in terms of the Euros; he's been the no. 2 behind Thomson in theory at least, for so long now that he has probably "earned" his chance in the eyes of the people who make these decisions. That said he appears to have made a lot of high profile errors not least in the Juventus v Monaco CL Quarter Final last season. Collum draws ire of Monaco after further refereeing blunders http://www.heraldscotland.com/sport/13211002.Collum_draws_ire_of_Monaco_after_further_refereeing_blunders/ Nonetheless he refereed the European Super Cup Final between Barcelona and Sevilla at the start of this season and he has refereed three Champions League games and two Euro Championship qualifiers this season. So whatever we might think of him, he is VERY highly regarded in Europe. Bobby Madden has been appointed to three Europa League games this season and did our Petrofac semi v St Mirren without any great incident IIRC.

"More goals", he hasn't scored ANY goals for us but has a reasonable 6 assists in 14 games. However only one of these is in the last 3 months. He scored one goal last season in the UEFA Youth League and one at the start of this season v Fulham U21's. The problem I have with him is that he is great at passing sideways but whenever he tries a through pass almost inevitably it goes straight to the opposition. Arsenal are using us to teach a youth player the game and find out if he might be good enough for their first team, whereas we need players who can make a real contribution for us right now. Law is a FAR superior player and both he and Shiels are a threat to score goals which Zelalem is not.
