Both are very clever and shrewd signings regardless of age. They are still Premier League level players. And Defoe's deal is 18 months which isnt a stop gap, we have essentially signed him for the remainder of his career. Bournemouth are unlikely to recall him in the windows they have after signing Solanke from Liverpool for 19million - someone we were linked with. TBH Id prefer the real deal in Defoe than Solanke, his goal scorer instincts means he will hit the ground running and can only be a help for Morelos on the training ground. We are going to give it a real push this season but looking further forward when everyone is fit next summer we have a strong looking group and this season was all about getting closer - the fact we have a genuine chance is even better.

To only concede 7 goals at the half way point is unfortunately impressive. I really didnt want to see Liverpool win the title again in my lifetime but it looks like this is their year. In saying that Klopp hasnt won anything and does lose a lot of finals therefore a City comeback could still be on the cards. The game next week is massive. And if Arsenal could turn up at Anfield tomorrow night and get something then that would be a boost. But Arsenal are about 5 players short at the moment.

Refering the title, was the title the actual expectation this season? For me it was all about closing the gap and that has obviously been done. The fact we are in an actual title race is a bonus. Indeed. They have Bournemouth and Wolves at home (Wembley) on Boxing day and Saturday, they MUST get 6 points from that! Then a very winnable game away to Cardiff while City play Liverpool so 9 points from Spurs has them right in the mix.

Wonder what the odds was on a Leicester and Palace double. What a strike from Townsend, worthy to win any game. Thats blown the title race open in Liverpools favour. City havent been clicking in the last few games. They were poor against Everton at home in the final third, needed pens for Leicester in the cup and now this result. Its no coincidence David Silva hasnt been fit along with Aguero. I find Bernardo Silva and Mayrez a step below so January will be interesting. I think with Poch and Klopp you can see the plan in action and they are very near being top teams. Considering there is only a few trophies to go around and you can only probably aim for two per season then its no surprise they havent won anything yet but the improvement year on year is obvious. Also Man City have become an elite club all of a sudden and on par with the top Man Utd and Arsenal teams in Premier league history. They havent reached Man Utds heights but this team are what Arsenal did to others from 98-04. I dont get the Solskjaer appointment though, time will tell. It seems to be "lets just get a clever calm head in the door". Its got similarities to Moyes in some ways albeit far different positions and circumstances. I would have thought a bigger character like Cantona would have been the sort of person they could have got to demand and command respect.
