PUBLISHED 10:00 28th July 2014 by DCFC Media Former Ram to attend Saturday's pre-season friendly against Rangers. Former Derby County and Rangers winger Ted McMinn will be at the iPro Stadium this weekend when his two old clubs go head-to-head. As a special guest of the club, McMinn will attend pre-season friendly between the two sides on Saturday 2nd August 2014 (1pm kick-off). He will appear on the pitch prior to the game getting underway and is assured a fantastic reception from both sets of fans. Now 51, McMinn was a huge fans’ favourite whilst on the books at the Baseball Ground between 1988 and 1993 and made over 150 appearances for the club, while he also enjoyed a spell working in Derby’s kit department after hanging up his boots. His playing career began north of the border with Queen of the South in 1982 before he moved to Rangers in 1984. He made over 60 appearances for the Ibrox club and helped them to the league title in 1986/87, making himself a popular figure with their fans in the process. After Rangers he went on to play for Sevilla in Spain, then Derby, Birmingham City, Burnley, Australian side ECU Joondalup and then, finally, Slough Town. Known as ‘The Tin Man’, his benefit match in Derby back in May 2006 pulled in 33,475 people as Derby and Rangers went head-to-head. In the early 2000s his life took a dramatic change as a serious infection picked up while on holiday led initially to his right foot being amputated, then more of his leg was removed beneath the knee to allow him to have a prosthetic limb fitted. Tickets for Derby’s pre-season friendly with Rangers are available on General Sale. Prices are: Adults £15, Senior Citizens £12, Juveniles £10 and Under 12s £5. Purchases can be made at the Ticket Office during normal opening hours, by calling 0871 472 1884 (option 1) or by logging on to WeAreDerby.com. [h=2]Club Statement[/h]WRITTEN BY RANGERS FOOTBALL CLUB "RANGERS Football Club Limited (the "Club") notes the findings of Lord Doherty in the HMRC case against Rangers Football Club plc (Oldco) and shares the views of many fans that so much of what later ensued at our Club following the start of that investigation was avoidable. "We are pleased to see the end of this sorry chapter in the history of Rangers FC, yet our greatest sympathy is with those who felt the pain of the last four years the most – our supporters. "In spite of almost unrelenting attacks and setbacks they have never flinched from supporting their football club with all their energy and resolve. "It is a matter for the authorities to explain their actions during this entire period that has seen the good name of Rangers severely damaged. "Our focus is on rebuilding the football club and getting Rangers back to where we belong. That, in itself, will help right some of the wrongs our Club and supporters have suffered over the last four years."

Mohamed Latif (23 October 1909 – 17 March 1990) was an Egyptian professional footballer. He played for the clubs Al-Zamalek of Egypt and Rangers F.C. ofScotland,[1] as well as for the Egyptian national team. Latif helped the Egyptian national team qualify for the 1934 World Cup, scoring three goals against British mandate football team during the qualification rounds.[2] He also played at the finals tournament in Egypt's only match, against Hungary. After the World Cup, Latif was brought to Glasgow by Egypt's national coach, the Scotsman James McRea.[3] He played his only Scottish League match against Hibs in the 1935-36 season.[4]

Rangers v Hibs in Challenge Cup 1st Round
Steve1872 replied to Tannochsidebear's topic in Rangers Chat

The following article was featured in the February 1999's FourFourTwo magazine.

THE LIFER by Gordon ThomsonIn the car on the way to school matches, on the pages of odorous football annuals, on a sun-kissed Glasgow terrace, drifting into sleep... his name was everywhere. He was my creepy uncle, though I never met him, my ghoulish invisible friend, though I never spoke to him, my Keyser Soze. though I never feared him. In truth, he was a mystery to me, and the most beguiling football player I have never known. Wrapped inside this enigma was a scapegoat of the Scottish football disciplinary system, a man deemed so evil it is hard to imagine him as a man at all. But when we are nine or ten the story is everything; the truth inconsequential. That his story also taught me a Latin phrase was equally unimportant. Except sine die didn't, sound like a learn-it-by-rote classroom clause. It was much more than that. It sounded like the end. read more:http://www.ayeready.com/features/woodburn.html

Between 1938 and 1954 Woodburn played 325 games for Rangers, scoring a solitary goal. He won four League titles, four Scottish Cups and two league Cups: three Doubles and a Treble. And he was capped 24 times for Scotland.

[h=1]Graeme Souness hints at new Brian Kennedy Rangers bid[/h]By Chick YoungFootball Correspondent, BBC Scotland Former Rangers manager Graeme Souness has suggested Brian Kennedy would be interested in launching a new bid for the Ibrox club. Souness also said he would be happy to be involved alongside Kennedy, and hinted Walter Smith could be convinced to join them. "If the circumstances were right again I think he'd have another go," Souness told BBC Radio Scotland. "If he was to ask me again I would most certainly be involved." Souness, who managed the Ibrox club from 1986 to 1991, was involved in businessman Kennedy's original bid to take control of the club in 2012. "There seems to be warring factions which can never be good for any football club," he said. "You just want the best and I think the best would be that somebody gets hold of that football club that has genuine Rangers interests at heart. "We really need some Rangers people in there that are there for the right reasons. "I was very much involved with Brian Kennedy when Charles Green ended up getting possession of the club. And I know that Brian is a sports fanatic, he's been in the sports business before with Sale Sharks, he knows how sporting organisations work and he would have been ideal for Glasgow Rangers. "Yes, there would have been tough times. He made it very plain to me that if we ended up owning the club there was going to be some very tough decisions to be made. Graeme Souness says both he and Walter Smith would likely return if the right people were in charge "I'd go work there for nothing. It wouldn't be a case of Brian Kennedy getting involved and wanting to make money from day one. "He is a businessman, long term he'd be looking to turn a profit, but until everyone was sharing in that, and by that I mean success on the field, the club are going in the right direction, and everything organised in a proper business way, no-one would be taking anything out of that club. "I just think wrong people have been in charge of that club for too long and it's in desperate need of some Rangers people getting back in possession, making the big decisions and making the right decisions. "He's [Kennedy] a very clever man, he's now spending a great deal of time in America but he's a very successful man. "I know deep down he's a Scotsman. Although he's not from Glasgow and he's not a Rangers supporter at heart - I don't think he ever supported a football club as a boy - I know he's a mad sports person and I think the opportunity for him to get involved in an institution like Glasgow Rangers, he couldn't resist it. "It hurts me because I had some great times there, it was very good for me. I think Walter is another person who comes into that category. "I think if you were to say to Walter there's a job here, the right people are in charge, Walter wouldn't want paying. "I certainly wouldn't want paying, and I think that's what you're looking at. You're looking at the right people getting hold of the club that are going to take nothing from the club, that are only going to give to the club with their time and their knowledge. "I think Walter would fit the bill in that respect and I can't speak for him but I think he would be keen to get involved if the right people are in charge of the club."
