Transfer Deadline Day: Michael O'Halloran signs until 2020
trublusince1982 replied to der Berliner's topic in Rangers Chat
Not being confident enough in a players ability to offer longer than a 6 month contract is now deemed as smart business? Smart business is getting a player in who's ability merits more than we paid and getting him tied down so we make a return after he has benefited the club. Guess that sums up how bad our signings have been the last few years when only being stuck with mediocre player for 6 months merits a high five! Wonder if we will offer money to get the two from accrington in early after the pre agreements are signed? I would deem that as smart business as it puts accrington over a barrel -
with a decent price structure I think its more than possible to hit the 40k mark with continued growth on the park and a busy summer transfer window

agree with most of that. Could well be Warburton feels he cannot attract the players he ultimately wants right now and will step up the pedigree of signing once we are up. Losing my belief there is any sort of war chest available or forth coming, the more time passes the more I think £200k-£300k buys mixed with freebies will be it next season. Cant really see that being enough with the pressure that will ramp up when we are back competing against them. Hearts don't face teams at their best every week, we will, so need to be a gear above. Don't agree we could beat Hearts with any sort of regularity think they are a far better side than hibs and could take a good few goals off them if they met. Still hope we get a decent premier side in the cup so we can gauge our position a little clearer. Would feel better if I could see us take a scalp or two. -

His signings only make financial sense if we get promoted and they lay the foundations for a team that can maintain a top half of the table finish next season. It doesn't save money our help in anyway if they all need replaced next year, all its done is hold off the inevitable. -
Watched the Dundee Derby heard plenty of billy boys and up to the knees in arab blood Before anyone jumps and says it's different because Arab is a nickname for their rivals and not a real Arab. Just think that through then examine it against the one rule for one excuse. Then explore the difference

Yeah contract length wages etc had all been discussed and agreed in principle along with other players like allen, after that Warburton decided when he came in. -

I had thought the club through its usual network of scouts put forward wilson, holt and halliday but Warburton had final say. -

The club should not try and dictate what the fans should accept without full and open communication between us. That's the same foolishness the spfl and sfa show in their thinking towards league reconstruction. If the authorities want to fight us on this then so be it,in my opinion we will win when we take this further, the club needs to decide whether to fight its own fans or back them. The fans have shown compromise by altering the offending words nothing more than that should be demanded. The board would be very foolish to go against the support in this matter, its not a minority its a vast majority that want to sing the new billy boys parody' -
Good interview . Sounds like we will see 2 or 3 join the squad this Jan. Glad to hear it. From what he's says would imagine cover for Wallace and tavernier will be targeted along with defensive mid.

The two from Accrington are signing pre contracts according to a little birdie. Obviously it's a handshake for now until the window opens. Hope he has a couple more up his sleeve for this season. -

Why would the days of signing £2m players be over? Celtic manage it. Once back in europe our aim must be to return our income streams back to historic numbers. When that is achieved there should be no reason why we cant buy at that price and still see a return on the purchase and it also fit in with our budgets Selling players on for a profit is to do with how their ability can be shown on a stage that is recognised, mainly europe/old firm games for us, placing them in a window that opens up new markets. Buying players for a pittance doesn't mean you will make returns if they fail to perform on the bigger stage. Personally dont think these players will be good enough to achieve european football, personally I want to see a couple of signings january just to ensure we can win the championship with a bit of ease As said time and again its not just about price. We are not just buying cheap. We are buying players who are cheap and also not performing for their respective teams in low level leagues. It looks to me like Warburton thinks league one/championship players who play for average teams down there and cant hold down a position are of the level suitable for us. I think he is wrong, if that is indead his thinking disagree the signings have been excellent. The performances have been poor longer than they have been excellent. We started strong for 2 months then have struggled against poor sides the last three months. Fitness has helped us in a lot of games. Nobody is shining in a very poor league. They should be head and shoulders above the likes of morton and dumbarton even hibs players -

think his appeal is heard on the 7th so would imagine he is free to play until then. how many weeks did lafferty get? -

Contract status being the main reason, league, countries footballing standard all play a part. A great player in england can be no better than a great player in france but their league would determine the price of the player not just ability. -

disagree a players value in general does not guarantee ability. £2m players are going to be better than freebies who cannot hold down positions at their team. A good player who would normally be £2m can of course be had for free if his contract runs out but that is not what we are doing or the way we are shopping. We are not snapping up players who have an aura of success around them or a value that is estimated above their current standing. We are taking players who's performances have set their value as low not circumstance with the belief we can improve them. A different thing than snapping up a player who was wrongly valued due to contract status or a falling out with manager etc as for how does it create new layers of players- if you take the market we are shopping right now ( england, lower leagues, free - <200k) that is a set number of players at any given time. You take those same parameters but extend them to include the rest of europe you create a bigger pool of players and with it increase the percentage of hidden gems per diddy per position. Instead of having 3 available left mids rated as 6 out of 10 you have 10 available laft mids rated at 6 out of 10. That way you don't get the first second or third choice you don't need to drop down to a slightly lower rated player (obviously working in averages cant account for the one off once in a lifetime scenarios) -

We aren't trying to find the odd gem we are trying to build a full squad out of these players by the looks of it. -

No they shouldn't be romping it they should be challenging the other teams who have spent along with them. In your analogy leicester shouldn't have been fighting relegation last season and should be able to recreate their success year on year. They wont, the cream will rise to the top, one year of success does not make a map that should be followed. Man u are 9 points off top of the table at the mid way point in one of the best leagues in the world. Doubt very much they will go with the philosophy of hunting for cheap gems this January to cut the gap. No they will spend and spend big no doubt which will bring them a higher chance of success. Nobody wants the club to spend out with its ability.Would be happy if these players cost the same but had shown their worth by standing out in league one. Would be happy if these freebies were even from a bigger pool as already said. Shopping in such a small pool of players at low to nothing prices That have not previously showered themselves in glory is limiting the chance of finding gems not increasing our chances. We are not just picking up cheap players we are picking up cheap players that have failed so far then trying to polish them into diamonds. That's a completely different strategy than looking for cheap buys who have shown their abilities by standing out in their present leagues. Trust has nothing to do with it, the players are here and can be judged against our knowledge of the teams we will face on the way up. In my opinion so far they are not of a high enough calibre to bring the kind of results that will be expected. Do you think the signings so far can build the foundations of a team capable of challenging next season based on your years of watching? -

how many of these diamonds have been found? Vardy cost £1m and was player of the year not an unwanted squad player. If we bring in ten of these players who are strugling to hold down first team places in league one/championship how many are you expecting to be better than the likes of the naismiths/lafferty of old? What kind of standard do you think we can expect from this recruitment policy on an average basis? If we were spending £400k-£500k on a single player from different leagues around europe I would be happier as it opens up another layer of players available enlarging the pool and heightening the chances of finding gems but thats not what we have done so far. The price of a player does not guarantee success but it does increase the chances massively and gives on average, under normal circumstances, a gauge of ability. So far we have spent £200k max on a player and used freebies. Sorry but i fail to see how success can be anything but a massive gamble with that philosophy. As we are seeing so far in the championship they have not been good enough to guarantee instant promotion. I would imagine we are cutting it closer than King and co would want. Guess it comes down to whether you think a team of unwanted low cost english league one players can make the basis for a team capable of winning the premiership and getting through euro qualifiers in the next 2-3 seasons. So far the signings are holding their own in the championship but are not creating a good enough nucleus to win the premier in my opinion. Personally don't think the best team in league one could win the Scottish premier never mind a squad of players deemed not good enough by their present managers -

I just hope it's not at the expense of somebody like Walsh. That and had really hoped for a more exciting signing. If the three are Forrester and the two from Accrington then I would be rather underwhelmed. Was hoping to see a slightly more expensive calibre of player that would be a level above the spfl premier. Guess I just need to get used to the way Warburton shops and hope they work as a team that can do us proud next year. -

by changing up to our kness in f bastards too up to our knees in ebts or big throphies not only have you changed the offensive wording but the whole meaning of the song. Its went from highlighting a fight against a terrorist supporting enemy to a jovial remark about our situation. Only those not listening or looking for offence could be offended. where is the offensive parts to that sung yesterday?
