    We should be ashamed that we have had to live outwith our means for the last 3 years in order to compete with part time teams mate. That to me is utterly embarrassing. It's just so wrong on so many levels. No one will ever convince me we wouldn't have got 3 consecutive promotions with a fraction of what the football side of our club has cost us. Around £40m by the time we will be back at the top tier next season. It's disgraceful if truth be told.

    Exactly mate. David Murray used a scatter gun approach and the club never got out of that, we are still doing it today. Signing for the sake of signing. No thought, no planning, no nothing, just rubbish.

    Our signing policy and hit/miss ratio was no better when we had scouts either. It doesn't seem to matter, what matters is the man having the final say on the players he wants and right now that is our handicap.

    Just sheer ignorance from the man. We can't afford what we have but he still wants more. Whether we need it or not is irrelevant. Any CEO with a brain and a set of balls would simply tell Ally to half his current wage bill, work within our means and get on with it. He would still have more tools than every other manager in the country to play with outside the obvious one.

    I think it's safe to assume, without proof, that he doesn't. Just a guess, my opinion.

    I'm not making any effort to moderate at all, i am trying to speak to a decent contributer to the forum with respect without it getting out of hand. Or is that ok because you yourself don't agree with Rab either? Know how we're allowed to slaughter the board but not Ally. That kind of thing does go on on here.

    Rab didn't say Ashley wants to though, he only said he is in a position to do it, which he is. I am not convinced he does tbh and i don't how it would affect his ownership of Newcastle.

    Ashleys wealth is unquestionable but that isn't the point here.

    At what cost though? He may want his tacky brand emblazoned on our world class training facility and stadium, he may want ridiculous interest rates, he may want things which will hinder our return to the top.

Ally gives them all the sound bites they want, all the time and interviews and when he asks for a little bit back they can't afford him it. Well played Ally, well played.

    Media have to keep attention off Celtic by whatever means.

    If we cut our football player/staff wage bill by half it would still be the second highest in the country........but we obviously need 30 odd first team players and a whole entourage of backroom staff.
