The trouble is that the points have no description whatsoever and so it's not really any information at all beyond one or two word headings. I can't really see the point of publishing something so ambiguous and verging on trite. It ends up being more frustrating and a bit annoying than informative or exciting. Well for me, anyway - I like to be informed. I'm sure there is sterling work and great innovations behind what are pretty much just concise agenda points, but when there's no details, I can only speculate very tenuously about the content of each heading. So while I'm looking forward to results of the meeting, forgive me if I'm underwhelmed and disappointed at the release of a few ambiguous one or two word headings. He's taken account of "Season tickets"? Surely he's been taking account of them since he bought the club? Or do you know something about the RST agenda that the rest of us don't?

It should be remembered that Castle Greyskull was the home of the good guys - He Man and his mates, who fought against evil. Their arch nemesis was the evil Skelator, who was based in Snake Mountain - that'll be Parkhead then.

I think the insinuation that they will lose their places and find it hard to get them back because they pulled out of the squad is a bit pathetic. What can they do? Play while injured? Stupid comments. A player is more likely to get picked if he takes care of his body. We don't have many midfielders of the quality of Ferguson to choose from so I can't see him not getting picked if he's available. Why don't his comments also apply to Brown who is having a bit of a long form slump? However, Brown is another player who will be one of the mainstays in midfield for Scotland whether he pulls out injured now and again or not. A small country like Scotland cannot afford to mess about with their best players and drop them on a whim to punish them for being injured. What a petty man. No wonder we were so crap under Craig Brown and rarely played our best team.

I've watched bits of quite a few Celtic games on Setanta. Maybe it's the blue tinted specs, but I would find it hard to argue that they play better than us. That also goes for Europe where they thought they played better as the games were end to end - but really it's because they didn't defend as well as us. There is a theory that poorly defended games are better to watch but that doesn't make it better football. Sometimes what could be considered technically poor football, can be more entertaining, but Alan Hansen has educated many on the beauty of great defensive play - which admittedly is an acquired taste. Many people would say alco-pops are tastier than beer wine, or a Big Mac is tastier than a fillet steak, but it depends on the sophistication of your palette. Not many have appreciated the excellent defensive displays that we've been putting in this season which should be every much as lauded as attacking play. We've also averaged more than two goals a game and quite a few have been pretty good. I've even seen Rangers play quite a bit of "oh lay (sp?)" football with excellent passing. However, sometimes what looks pretty and what wins games is not always the same. We were criticised for our home game against Barcelona but Celtic were praised, however we drew and never really looked like losing, while Celtic were generally played off the park but sneaked a couple of goals - and in the end, they lost. Perhaps we're just hankering after the days of 2-3-5 formations which produce great football, but you wouldn't win with it much these days - just like the beautiful Jaguar D type would never be able to win Le Mans anymore. It seems to me that if you want to enjoy watching a winning Rangers team at the moment, you'll have to acquire a taste for the type of football we play, which is currently producing the best run of results in all competitions for about 15 years. In the last year or two we were setting new records for negative things, this year we're setting records for good things. Which would you prefer. Get used to the flavour of that bear, as alco-pops are no longer for sale at Rangers. I'm sure you'll get a taste for it eventually and then there will be no going back...

It might be against the rules but only the stupidest rules don't have an "exceptional circumstances" clause. I can't see what the big deal is.

Maybe you should go to the Celtic end and spread your germs there...

I think we actually pulled out of the game as we probably wouldn't have the OF players available and quite rightly Burley doesn't want to risk losing to them with a weakened squad. I'm with him - I don't want to play England without a strong squad as I hate losing to them as much as I hate Rangers losing to Celtic - probably more...

Right, I know Boyd played 15 min, Davis played about 70 and Naismith also played (and scored), but did any of Papac, Hemdani or Buffel play? It's so hard to find such simple information. I think Papac ended up being out with a cold.

If you postpone your own home game, what do you expect? Or are they saying that their board and management are co-conspirators against Celtic? Or was the death of Phil O'Donnell part of the conspiracy, to play on their bleeding hearts? Weirdos...

Is anyone else finding it distasteful and bordering on cheating, the way Celtic are acting over the possibility of a league extension? I hear they are planning a tour of Japan straight after the end of the season to force the SPL not to allow the proposed extension. It is obvious that if Rangers have a worst case scenario of fixtures then this could benefit Celtic if it affects Rangers' performances in the league. Now, it's not just the unsporting nature of their attitude which sticks in my craw, it is the fact that Rangers had the decorum to agree to postpone a game against them which they requested for very tenuous emotional reasons. Now this to me is akin to Rangers stopping an attack to kick the ball out of play in an Old Firm game while a Celtic player over acts on the ground after a very mild knock - then Celtic use the throw in to create an attack on Rangers' goal. Any sense of integrity and fair play at Celtic park should at least result in their support of a one game extension in the league to play the game that they postponed. However, I just can't see any integrity coming from Snake Mountain...

We don't have many players who are worth much and I think the total will still be more likely to be gross rather than net. So who would we sell? Goalkeeping situation is fine. Defence -------- Whittaker: keep Broadfoot: keep Lowing: keep Weir is possibly too old for another season and his contract runs out. Possibly give him a year extension Cuellar: improved, extended contract Dailly: new one year contract Webster: sign up Papac: keep Smith: keep Midfield: ------- Novo: one year left on contract, keep Burke: Possibly sell. How much is he worth? Davis: sign Ferguson: keep Thomson: keep Hemdani: Possibly sell. Not worth much at his age. Faye: get rid and possibly pay off. Furman: keep McCulloch: keep Adam: Probably keep Beasley: keep Up front -------- Boyd: possibly sell, might be worth a few mil. Darcheville: keep - couldn't sell anyway with his injury record Cousin: keep, but may sell if another Premiership club offers 3M Naismith: keep Buffel: sell - but luck to get 1M. Gow: keep unless he wants to go. Wouldn't get much for him. So potential sales for significant sums are: Burke, Hemdani, Cousin, Buffel, Boyd. Burke: 1.5M? Hemdani: 500k? Cousin: 3M? Buffel: 1M? Boyd: 3M? So a potential of 9M in my made up numbers. Not too shoddy really. However, I would rather have Cousin than 3M. Burke, I've lost patience with, Buffel can go soon as, I'd like to keep Boyd but as a squad player rather than a first choice, Hemdani I'm not sure about - can look classy but is very inconsistent and his age is against him; good as a squad player.

More refereeing stats for conspiracy minded Celtic fans...
calscot replied to Frankie's topic in Rangers Chat
If you get more bookings are you conspired against or just a dirtier team? How can having good fair play stats be evidence of a conspiracy? I think what Frankie's stats show is that the best team in the league usually have the best fair play. You tend to foul less when you're winning... -
I must like the pantomime. Roughie speaks a wee bit of sense although he's not the brightest bulb in the box, while Ewan plays devil's advocate but infuriatingly misses the whole point. I think he dumbs himself down a bit to avoid patronising the callers too much, which would be so easy to do but also alienate his audience.

are we beyond critisism due to our current standings?

Totally agree. -

We are not above criticism but we should be realistic with the extent of our criticism. Craig, I get to few games, and I've seen plenty of piss poor one's in my time. I've seen us struggle against the likes of Kilmarnock and St Johnstone and get beaten by a poor Hibs team more than once. My first ever Rangers game was a very boring 1-0 win over Aberdeen. The team against St Johnstone was probably our most expensive ever, and even had a 12M man coming off the bench! Sorry, but in my opinion nothing much has changed. Like I said, if you fed a starving man with wholesome food, would you be impressed if he complained that it wasn't gourmet? At this stage of Walter's tenure and after our recent famine, I feel a lot of the criticism is just as big a slap on the face. I may not be paying 400 quid for a season ticket, but I am paying £120 for Setanta, on which I rarely watch anything other than Rangers games, and I rarely miss a game. Yes, we could do with a creative player or two that can also entertain, but we need a team first, that is capable of providing a platform for them to play. And decent teams don't come cheap or leave much cash around for a sought after flair player. Can we please give Walter some time to build a team and win a few trophies before we start demanding a finished product? The man is working his socks off to give us good reason to hold our heads up high and be proud, so what does it say about us if all we can do is whinge? I can't really talk as I don't get to many games, but perhaps those that do could maybe think about criticising themselves and maybe put the effort into providing an atmosphere to inspire our players to lift their play onto another level? -

As another point, I feel I watched hell of a lot of enjoyable games this season - maybe more for looking like we're inevitably going to win as I mentioned earlier. It's been the most enjoyable since the treble about five years ago. # There have also been some fantastic games - like Lyon away and Celtic and Bremen at home. There's been some very poor games, but not really that many. Maybe too many for our liking, but are Celtic any better? Not from what I've seen - the opposite in fact. And Celtic have been like that for a good few years. Basically, I don't think it's as bad as some people are making out. We're in short, bad spell, but just before we had a short good spell. Is it not just the ups and downs of football? -

After being rubbish to watch as well as easy to beat in the last couple of years, I'll gladly take rubbish to watch and hard to beat. The standard of play may not be up there with Barcalona, but I'm not going to pretend we have anywhere near their resources and think of Rangers as the Catalans' peers. There are actually few teams in the world that play wonderful football while winning everything going and Barcelona's long list of managers is testament to that fact. I defy any Rangers fan to show me a season where we played fantastic football in every game, as I don't remember even coming close. We have played excellent football in many games, but every season has had many boring, ugly games. Even in latter years of 9IAR, the footballing plaudits went to Celtic under Burns - but would you have swapped places? Do you want Burns as Scotland manager so we can play fancy football and get gubbed every game? I think I know the answers to those questions. People criticise our tactics in Europe but Smiths last spell showed us that nobody likes attacking football when you lose all the time. He's learned from that and I think it's time some of our fans did too. I could understand more if we were on another 9IAR run and Smith had 8 years to get his team and tactics sorted. But does a starving man complain about tastiness of wholesome food when it suddenly comes in abundance? For me winning is the most important thing and I realise that these days (and pretty much always), a club like Rangers are going to have to be pragmatic. The only thing I ask is that most of the time, that we win deterministically ie we play in a way that makes winning look inevitable rather than the fraught, nail biting and often lucky seeming wins we had under Eck when he won the league on Helicopter Sunday and qualified for the last 16 of the CL. With today's finances, if you really want beautiful football, I really think you must be supporting the wrong team. Most of us don't get to marry Milla Jovovich lookalikes, so we can't complain when our wives or girlfriends are less good looking than movie stars or models. And when you love them you have to put up with the times when they look a bit rough. However, when your wife or GF is considered the best catch in town, what is there to complain about, really? I'm sure that Rangers will improve in the next few years under WS - unless there are unknown negative factors, but there is a chance that we may have to accept that this is as good as it gets... Enjoy it before the next inevitable trophy drought comes before we know it. -
Well, would you want to go home at that time of the month? I can see why we stay in the pub!

Don't actually work up a sweat cycling either and it's about a 5minute journey instead of 15-20 walking. Got to catch up with my teammates... Probably wouldn't cycle if I had to go on the road. Most of the time it's just two drinks anyway as others are driving and they just have the one; although one turned into a sesh of about 12 pints with irate girlfriends and wives picking the guys up...
-
Difficult one to prosecute if you're not a danger to the public. It's a cycle route all the way to the pub and only a mile so I think I'm safe. And far better than drinking and driving. To be honest I find it hard to see how drinking and cycling on a cycleway is any more dangerous than drinking and running... and not as serious as drinking and running with scissors... Although for some people who get aggressive when they drink, drinking and walking is pretty dangerous enough...
-
Mine is usually, get up about 9. Drive to the pitch about 10, play a match, go home and jump on my bike to the pub, have a few drinks and a load of chips, go home and switch on Setanta...
-
So your mate gets you in the shower and "hands" you a cold one? Sounds a bit dodgy!

I agree a wind up would be good, but let's make it a good one... originality always improves a wind up.
