Rangers sign St Etienne defender Carlos Bocanegra
ian1964 replied to ian1964's topic in Rangers Chat
He's not signed..............................according to the Express:grin: Rangers thought another deal in the region of Ã?£400,000 could be struck with St Etienne for Bocanegra. But the French side are looking to hike up the fee. McCoist added: ââ?¬Å?That's exactly what St Etienne are doing - there is no might beââ?¬Å¡ about it. But heââ?¬â?¢s their player so I canââ?¬â?¢t comment on that. But I do have another two central defenders in mind at his moment in time.ââ?¬Â http://www.express.co.uk/posts/view/265633/Rangers-secure-Alejandro-Bedoya-but-not-for-Euro-clash-in-Slovenia -
"I think Ki will make the club a lot of money one day," observed Lennon. "He is unquestionably a £10m player like Aiden. He is certainly coming into that bracket now. He has turned heads already. There is nothing substantial that I'm aware of, although I know there is interest in him. But we want to keep our best players. "He is a real asset for the club now, a wonderful footballer. He is everything you would want in the modern day midfield player. He is 6ft 2in, a fantastic athlete, very good on the ball under pressure. "He is a good at passing, excellent with both feet and has a goal in him as we saw again against Dundee United on Saturday. So we think he can turn out to be a really world class player." :spl::spl::spl: http://sport.scotsman.com/football/Neil-Lennon-backs-3910m-man39.6820680.jp

CARLOS BOCANEGRA signed for Rangers last night - 45 MINUTES before the Euro deadline. Now boss Ally McCoist hopes to get international clearance to play the USA World Cup star against Maribor tonight. Gers swooped to land the St Etienne defender in a £300,000 deal with Bocanegra, 32, signing a three-year contract. McCoist also landed his USA international team-mate Alejandro Bedoya yesterday. But it was the capture of Bocanegra that handed McCoist a crucial boost ahead of tonight's Europa League play-off in Slovenia. After a day of tense negotiations with the French outfit McCoist was given the news late on that the deal had gone through. Gers now need to get paperwork in place before they are able to play the ex-Fulham ace tonight. But Bocanegra will jet out to Slovenia this morning to join the squad. The deal was done before last night's 11pm deadline, with McCoist desperate to pitch him in against Maribor. Bedoya also penned a three-year deal but won't feature in tonight's clash in Slovenia. The USA international winger clinched a £300,000 move and is in line to make his debut at Motherwell on Sunday. Bedoya said: "The waiting is over and I'm so excited and thankful for this opportunity. I can't wait to join Rangers." McCoist said: "We're absolutely thrilled to get Alejandro in at last. "We've wanted to get a few players in and he is one of them. "I have no doubt he will be a great asset to us and he is someone we have been looking at for a while. "I'm just so pleased the clubs agreed terms and we can get him to join the squad now. "That will happen as soon as possible. He has got to go to Stockholm to get his visa and he's as keen to join up with us as we are to have him here. "Hopefully we can get everything done so he can get his Rangers career underway." Bedoya, who had agreed a pre-contract to leave Swedish outfit Orebro for Ibrox in January, has penned a three-year deal. He'll link up with international team-mates Mo Edu and fellow new signing Bocanegra in Glasgow. But one player who could be on his way out of Ibrox on the short-term is midfielder John Fleck. Blackpool want to take him on loan and that could happen if Gers bring in more new players. McCoist said: "Blackpool were showing a bit of interest about two or three weeks ago. "It's Catch 22 because Flecky needs to go and play every week. "I appreciate that, but I don't think we are in a position right now to let him go now." That's the Craig I like:thup:
-
Bartley has enough SPL experience in my book and is young, while Perry is 22 I think? but looks like he is making a break through. The only old player is SDOW and he has been the best defender in the SPL since he arrived. Goian & Bocanegra can hardly be described as old.
-
Craig,I happen to think they can continue playing until they reach 36ish,barring injury,so aye a good few years. And I wasn't comparing them to SDOW. Their age is a good age,IMO,for CB,not too old and not too young. Replacing players is part of football mate, how many players stay at one club for long. If the young guy Perry continues to improve then there is one young CB with LW a potential cover for CB. I'm don't share your concerns mate.

The stench of fear from the BHEASTS has begun: Bobby Peru Today, 10:47 PM Post #6743 Member Avatar The Maestro Admin Group: Admin Quantity not quality. The huns are in an awful position they really have to bulk up their squad. Buying 2 x £2.5m players would really be no use to them so they have to try to pick up the odd gem. Celtic showed last year that with good scouting it is possible to find excellent young players who will stand out in Scotland. The huns are picking up journeymen though. Bocanegra, Goian, Wallace, Ortiz, Bedoya, Healy, Kerkar, Bartley (Loan), McKay (awaiting Visa) It's possible Bedoya and McKay could turn out to be really good players, i know nothing of either of them but it's not really a collection of players that worries me at all. TheHumanTorpedo 58 minutes ago Post #6750 Member Avatar Bring it on Peru...BRING IT ON! Group: Backroom Staff Not really seen Bocanegra since his Fulham days when he was at his best OK but prone to being woefully out of position. Used to chip in with a few goal iirc. I'm sure he'll cope with the SPL but hardly a signing to worry about. Mickeybhoy84 50 minutes ago Post #6761 Member Avatar Living the dream Group: Snr. Which of course is not to say that lumps of wood cannot find success and happiness in the SPL. But he's nowhere near the form he was a few years ago. Sounds like a far younger Weir who's been at the centre of their defence for the past 3 years. Henrik The King 28 minutes ago Post #6779 Member Avatar screwby Group: Snr. Member Bocanegra will likely do OK for them. A fairly powerful player and a leader with experience. I don't expect him to set the heather on fire as he's past his peak but he'll probably do OK in the SPL. He'll give a bit of balance and strength but when he comes up against Hooper and Stokes he'll struggle with his lack of pace. We've still got a far stronger squad of players at our disposal. I'd be very glad if Jelavic left so here's hoping. Jinkys 7 26 minutes ago Post #6788 Member Avatar The Man Group: Snr. Member Favourite all-time player CM Punk. I'd prefer if McGregor left before Jelavic tbh but would be over the moon to see both of them go.* McGregor saves them time and time again and wins them at least 15 points on his own each season. *I'm aware that McGregor has jsut signed a new contract. packrat 11 minutes ago Post #6796 Member Avatar Getting on a bit Group: Snr. Rangers sign St Etienne defender Carlos Bocanegra
ian1964 replied to ian1964's topic in Rangers Chat
The USA captain, has played 93 times for USA,played in EPL.......................Think he wiill prove to be a very shrewed signing -
Craig,I have to disagree with your concerns over the players ages, they are experienced players and have a good few seaons left in them and the cost of bringing them in is minor. I don't see why you are so concerned?

Rangers have signed United States central defender Carlos Bocanegra from St Etienne for an undisclosed fee. The 32-year-old, who has signed a three-year contract, could make his debut against Maribor should he receive international clearance to play. Rangers manager Ally McCoist had been desperate to add to his squad after several injuries in defence ahead of Thursday's Europa League qualifier. Bocanegra had joined St Etienne from Rennes for £400,000 in July 2010. He becomes McCoist's sixth signing of the summer - and the second USA international to join the Ibrox squad within hours. Midfielder Alejandro Bedoya, who had already signed a pre-contract agreement to join Rangers in January, was secured earlier after a fee was agreed with Swedish club Orebro. McCoist had one "wild card" signing available to him ahead of Thursday's play-off first leg in Slovenia. And, although Bedoya was free of work permit problems and could have played, the Rangers boss instead registered Bocanegra because of his personnel shortage in defence. David Weir and Kyle Bartley are both missing through injury, while Sasa Papac and Steven Whittaker are suspended. Rangers must now hope that international clearance will come through in time from the French Football Association for the defender who started his career with Chicago Fire, before playing for Fulham and Rennes. Bocanegra, who has won 93 caps for his country, is expected to join another summer signing, Romania international Doran Goian, in the heart of the defence in Slovenia. He swells the ranks of USA squad players in the Ibrox dressing-room to three and could play alongside midfielder Maurice Edu against Maribor. http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/football/14536750.stm I honestly think this is a cracking signing. Looking forward to 4 in a row:spl::spl::spl::spl:

Aye, I am the GOALIE!!! HA!HA!,just saying some people are always positive thinking where others are not. Is it so wrong to believe we could get to another Euro final?
