  1. Borrowed from another forum: Given the conflicting reports in various media outlets concerning the activities at last nights game, I called Stirling Albion to try and get to the bottom of said reports and managed to have a quite lengthy conversation with their (very helpful) press officer Paul Goodwin. Mr Goodwin, who is happy to be quoted, had the following to say in response; • There was, to his knowledge, no sectarian singing at all last night. Indeed, he only recognised two of the songs, those being The Sash and Rule Brittania. • There were announcements made over the tannoys - Police messages that if sectarian singing was indulged in then arrests would be made. There were NO arrests. • Mr Goodwin stated he felt the announcements were made as a standard warning and not in response to singing. • A number of journalists were keen to clarify the events last night (Scotsman and BBC amongst them), with one journalist in particular 'tweeting' from the stadium. Mr Goodwin could not determine who that was and so could not confirm the name of the journalist. • Mr Goodwin was at pains to offer his thanks to The Rangers support at large and how they contributed to a great atmosphere at the game. Indeed, he went on to offer his thanks to the club itself for helping Stirling Albion with this match. He was keen to have these responses made available to Rangers supporters via our websites, then invited me to email him so he could write something for publication concerning the events. How refreshing - I can't really exaggerate how helpful and positive the gentleman was in responding to my questions. Would it be possible for one of RM mods or admin to message me and I can pass on Mr Goodwins email so the site itself can publish his written responses? And would anyone know how best to inform our club itself of the spin being placed on the events at a pre-season friendly? I dread to think what the press have planned for us if there is this level of motivation and interest at a match vs Stirling Albion.
  2. A good chance for our new leaders to step up to the plate and challenge this

  7. We'll see what Rangers FC & CW will have to say about this
  8. STIRLING ALBION 0 RANGERS XI 1 13 July 2011 A crowd of over 1200 turned out at Doubletree Dunblane Stadium last night for Peter McKenzie's Testimonial Match against a young Glasgow Rangers XI. Behind the scenes over 80 guests, including former managers, players and the Provost of Stirling, Fergus Wood gathered in the Hospitality Suites to pay tribute to our former owner and chairman of 17 years, Peter "Mr Stirling Albion" McKenzie. Peter's daughter Tricia, son Jimmy and grandson Scott were present to share in the emotional celebrations. On behalf of the Club, Stuart Brown presented Peter with a framed certificate conferring "Freedom of the Club" upon him, in recognition of his contribution to Stirling Albion FC - in simple terms, Peter has a lifelong open invite to attend DDS. Provost Fergus Wood presented Peter with a magnificent silver miniature William Wallace Sword in appreciation of everything he has done over the years, not just for the Club but also the City of Stirling. SAFC would like to extend their thanks to Glasgow Rangers FC for the part they played - over and above the 90 minutes of football - in particular their Management Team, Tommy Wilson and Billy Kirkwood, who ensured everything was in place in the lead up to the match and on the night itself. Pre-match, the crowd were entertained by the Stirling City All Stars and at half time, the local youth teams, Fallin Violet and Cowie United took part in a 5-a-side Shoot Out. The game itself gave both Clubs the ideal platform to continue their pre-season build up and for the record the only goal of the game was scored shortly before the full time whistle by Rangers number 9, Rhys McCabe. The scoreline, however, was far less important than the reason behind the fixture - Peter McKenzie, everyone associated with Stirling Albion, past, present (and future) salutes you and thanks you for ensuring the City of Stirling has a senior football club to support. http://www.stirlingalbionfc.co.uk/
  9. Different take on this here: SECURITY officials were forced to appeal to Rangers supporters for calm, and considered holding up a friendly at Stirling Albion last night, after an unruly minority of travelling supporters set of flares. An appeal was made over Stirling's loudspeakers for the Rangers fans to behave as an Ibrox reserve team, made up mainly of Under-19 players, beat Stirling 1-0 in a testimonial match for Albion's former chairman Peter McKenzie, thanks to a late goal from Rhys McCabe. Stirling officials insisted after the match there was never any danger of the match being abandoned, although they conceded the game was briefly in danger of being stopped for a couple of minutes had the Rangers supporters not responded to the appeals for calm. The match was watched by a crowd of 1,200. http://sport.scotsman.com/football/Appeal-for-calm-as-Rangers.6800529.jp
  10. RANGERS plan to rent out Ibrox to rock bands, businesses and car park operators in a bid to generate much-needed cash. New chief operating officer Ali Russell revealed yesterday he is determined to maximise revenue from stadium facilities when no matches take place there. He said: "We've got to be more effective on how we utilise this asset for the benefit of the club. "Football is Rangers' priority but we can supplement that by using Ibrox for concerts, conferences, business offices - or even car parking." US rockers Bon Jovi were the last big name to play at Ibrox when they performed for 50,000 fans in 2003. Russell, 39 - appointed by new owner Craig Whyte last month - also said the club is exploring the possibility of reviving a project to redevelop land around Ibrox. The G51 Project was shelved in 2007 when the club lost out on a licence for a super casino. Russell added: "We've had a good look at what we can do with the areas surrounding the stadium and there seem to be some opportunities." 11. COPS tried to axe a match between Rangers and Stirling Albion last night amid reports fans chanted sectarian songs. It came after police stepped in to restore order over claims fireworks were set off at the Binos ground. And officers are understood to have spoken to Stirling directors at half-time asking for the match to be halted temporarily. Last night a source said: "There was an announcement asking fans to refrain from sectarian chanting." The game at Doubletree Dunblane Stadium - which Rangers won 1-0 - was a testimonial for ex-Binos chairman Peter McKenzie. Stirling Albion director Stuart Brown said: "There was a police request to stop the game." A club spokesman added: "The firecrackers also created a dangerous situation." Last night Central Scotland Police declined to comment. Read more: http://www.thescottishsun.co.uk/scotsol/homepage/news/3692169/Cops-bid-to-axe-Gers-game-in-chants-row.html#ixzz1RxPneP9z

  13. Ally McCoist has revealed he is considering a move to hand Kenny Miller an unprecedented third spell as a Rangers player. The Ibrox boss is stepping up his reinforcement plans ahead of the SPL season and confirmed a return for Miller had not been ruled out as he weighs up various attacking options. The Scotland striker left Glasgow in January to sign a lucrative deal with Turkish club Bursaspor, but is anxious to move back to the UK after failing to settle. McCoist has kept in contact with Miller since he exited Ibrox, although he has yet to discuss the possibility of a transfer with the 31-year-old. 'Kenny has never been out of my thoughts,' said McCoist, speaking at the club's preseason training camp in Germany. 'He is a player who did very well for us. He is a good lad and gets on well with everyone here. I wouldn't rule anyone out and I certainly wouldn't rule Kenny Miller out. 'But I haven't spoken to him to any degree or great length about it because he is obviously still under contract at Bursaspor. Kenny ticks all the boxes in terms of what we're looking for but, to be fair, we're looking at a few who tick all the boxes. Miller: No Turkish delight Miller: No Turkish delight 'I'm not going to tell you that deal is going to happen or it's not going to happen.' Miller banks around £45,000 per week at Bursaspor but would be willing to take a substantial cut in wages to return home. Even so, finding the right financial package would be one obstacle in the way of any deal for a player who previously joined Rangers from Hibs and Derby. 'I'm sure there are clubs in England interested in him and he'd probably get nearer the money he'd be looking for down there,' added McCoist. McCoist is hoping to make substantial progress on the transfer front this week, with defensive reinforcements his first priority. Espanyol centre-back Raul Rodriguez is under consideration but the Rangers boss made it clear he wants a more experienced operator capable of making an immediate impact. 'I want someone who can play in the team right away,' he said. 'You can buy kids, ones for the future and take a wee gamble now and then, but we need men to come into our team.' Madjid Bougherra will fly home today for a scan on a hamstring strain, but Rangers are hopeful he will be fit for the SPL opener a week on Saturday. Kyle Lafferty will visit a specialist in Manchester to have his groin injury assessed, with a four-week absence thought to be the maximum. New contracts for David Weir and Steven Davis could be confirmed in the near future after McCoist reported positive developments on discussions. He is, however, baffled as to why Gregg Wylde has not signed the three-year extension offered earlier this summer. 'He hasn't signed his contract. Why not? I don't know,' said McCoist. 'A contract has been put to him and I think it will be our final offer.' Read more: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-2013680/Rangers-weighing-Kenny-Miller-offer.html#ixzz1RqG2572I
  14. ALLY McCOIST is ready to offer Kenny Miller a sensational return to Rangers. Ibrox gaffer McCoist is desperate to sign a striker and revealed Miller could be set for a THIRD spell at Ibrox. Miller, 31, is desperate to quit Turkey after his big-money move to Bursaspor turned sour. SunSport understands the Scotland striker would jump at the chance of a return to Gers. McCoist who will hold talks with Miller this week, said: "Kenny has never been out of my thoughts. He is a player who did very well for us. He ticks all the boxes in terms of what we're looking for, but we're looking at a few who tick all the boxes. "I wouldn't rule anyone out and I certainly wouldn't rule Kenny Miller out either. "I haven't spoken to him to any degree or great length about it because he is obviously still under contract at Bursaspor. "But Kenny is someone I have a lot of respect for, he's done well. He always gave us everything he's got and was a good player for the club." Miller has told Bursaspor he wants out of his three-year deal and it's believed they have accepted they are better selling the unhappy player. The Turkish side paid just £400,000 to sign him in January and could cut their losses and rip up his contract. McCoist added: "I'm sure there are clubs in England interested in him and he'd probably get nearer the money he'd be looking for down there. "I've been speaking to Kenny about other things, we spoke to him last week to see how he's getting on and what he's been up to. "Kenny also keeps in touch with Kenny McDowall and a few of the boys in the team like Allan McGregor. "I'd imagine I'll be speaking to him again in the next few days." A possible Miller return would excite most Gers fans. McCoist added: "The supporters just want to see a winning team. "They want to see players who give everything they have to win games. "They want to be entertained, but they want to see players who are keen to play for the club." Gers are desperately searching for new players with Espanyol stopper Raul Rodriguez a possibility. McCoist said: "Rodriguez is one of a number of defenders we are looking at. We maybe have six or seven in that category. "We know we have to get defenders in sooner rather than later, but we want the right ones in. "I want someone who can play in the team right away. "You can buy kids, ones for the future and take a wee gamble now and then, but we need men to come into our team now." 21. CHEEKY Australian Rangers supporters’ chief John Magee has hit back at Neil Lennon and told the Celtic manager to get a life. Magee spoke out after Lennon claimed the Ibrox faithful were ‘obsessed with us (Celtic)’ - after the Perth Rangers Supporters Club hired a small plane, complete with a banner which read: Rangers FC champions 3-in-a-row Perth RSC, and flew it over the nib Stadium, ahead of Celtic’s weekend friendly win over Perth Glory. The Rangers fan claimed it was a wind-up and Lennon’s reaction was completely out of order. Magee, initially from Hamilton, said: “I can’t understand Neil Lennon’s comments. What is he all about? He thinks everyone holds a grudge against him but it was a bit of crack, a wind-up. “He should lighten up and relax. It was a bit of humour and Celtic fans are never slow to have a pop at us over here when the situation merits it.” Lennon, speaking after his team’s 2-0 victory over Perth Glory, said: “I heard about it. “You would think they would have had better things to do, like following their team in Germany. Than paying a lot of money to noise us up. I think they are a wee bit obsessed with us at the moment.” Perth Glory manager and ex-Rangers player Ian Ferguson kidded on he was behind the move. “It was nice to see and the Celtic camp also took it in good spirits,” Ferguson admitted. “Mind you it cost me about a week’s wages.” Magee revealed that the plan for the aeroplane had been hatched the previous weekend by the 500 strong Perth and Rockingham Rangers supporters’ clubs. He explained: “There’s a massive Celtic contingent in Australia. We thought when they’re all together in the one ground, why don’t we give them a noise up they won’t forget. “We all got together last weekend, members of the Rockingham and Perth RSCs and talked about what we could do to wind up the Celtic fans. The banner was the idea of Gary Bellingham, who runs the Perth RSC. We all chipped in to pay the Ã?£600 to hire the light aircraft for two hours from Jandakot Airport in Perth. It worked a treat.” http://www.express.co.uk/posts/view/258002/Aussie-Rangers-Chief-tells-Neil-Lennon-to-lighten-up-
  22. RANGERS are weighing up a swoop for Espanyol centre half Raul Rodriguez. Ibrox boss Ally McCoist is desperate to sign a new stopper in time for the big SPL kick-off. And Rodriguez, 23, has emerged as a target to partner Madjid Bougherra at the back. McCoist revealed last night that Gers could also be set for contract talks with star man Bougy. But the new gaffer is desperate to find someone to play alongside the big Algerian defender. Gers have been told that Rodriguez would cost around £500,000. Now talks with the La Liga outfit will take place over the next 24 hours as McCoist hopes to strike a deal. He told SunSport: "Rodriguez is one of a number of players we're looking at." Rodriguez had three seasons in Spain's Second Division with Gramenet before joining Espanyol last summer. But he only made ten appearances last season. Gers director of football Gordon Smith added: "We've had good reports on him. We now need to speak to Espanyol and discuss the terms of any possible transfer. "We are working on a number of targets and hope to make progress in the coming week." Rangers fans will also be boosted by the news the club would be set to hold talks with Bougherra. Bougy has 12 months to run on his Ibrox deal - and looked set to quit the SPL champs this summer. But McCoist has vowed NOT to cash in on the 28-year-old. The Gers boss said: "It's a possibility that he could walk away from the club for nothing at the end of the season. "But he's come back for pre-season training with us and wants to train and he wants to play. "Circumstances will dictate what will happen with him, but I absolutely want to keep him. "I wouldn't even rule out a new contract. I'm certainly open to that. It's not something we've spoken about to Madjid but I wouldn't rule it out." Gers lost 3-0 in their second friendly game against Bochum on Saturday with McCoist insisting the defeat only underlines his need for fresh faces in defence. But he vowed: "We're not going to panic buy. "It's blatantly obvious to everyone we need players in - and we'll do that. "But I'm not just going to go out and get players just for the sake of it. "We know what we need and we'll go and get them." Read more: http://www.thescottishsun.co.uk/scotsol/homepage/sport/spl/3687770/Ally-McCoist-is-after-hot-Rod.html#ixzz1RmdGRl40
  23. Craig Thomson will leave Heart of Midlothian Football Club imminently.
