How badly is the discredited 'journalist' hurting?
Super_Ally replied to Norris Cole's topic in Rangers Chat
There is an episode of friends where Joey has to write a statement for Chandler and Monica in support of them to adopt children. He gets out a thesaurus and it ends up a load of incomprehensible, childish nonsense. Much like an article by Speir's. I'm not really sure what he was thinking when he described a footballing skill the same way some of us might describe a peice of ripe fruit. -
Davis: Winning goal against Timmy in the 1-0 home victory. Scored several goals from midfield. Numerous assists. Mendes: Only 4 goals, but everyone a cracker. An OF thunderbolt. Whittaker: The goal against Killie that was out of the matrix. Cracking one in off underside of crossbar v hibs. Think there are a couple more I don't remember. Numerous mazy runs. Boyd: Van Basten effort v Partick. The long ranger v Motherwell. 29 others to go with them. Miller: 2 v the tims. Goal against Hibs in the 3-0 at Easter Road was quality. Few more goals and assists to boot.

Not touched that book solely because of his inclusion. The excerpt from Speirs could no doubt be summed up as: Rangers = bad. But with the extensive use of a thesaurus to make it more flowery. -

How badly is the discredited 'journalist' hurting?
Super_Ally replied to Norris Cole's topic in Rangers Chat
Is that a wind up? Is this him trying to prove he's not a bigot? Or will it be a hatchet job on 50 of our greatest servants? -
When this was first suggested as a possibility I thought it would be good for Scottish football. But will it? Is the country's contribution to our co-efficient not calculated by all co-efficient points earned by the teams from that country, divided by the number of teams from that country competing in Europe. So if Well do what most teams do and add about 1 point to that co-efficient and we get anywhere from 8 to say 17. (Not unreasonable). The fact that Motherwell are in Europe may very well bring down the country contribution to our sides co-efficients for seeding. Hope that makes sense, I think it will to anyone who has been on Bert Kassie's site before.
-
Cheers for that Craig. Even better, the whole of the country will be laughing at them too now. :spl:
-
Don't remember seeing it. As I say though, how can they say 10 is enough of a contribution but 9 is not? Give em all medals. :spl:
-
Missed that then. There were a couple of others in a similar situation. As I say, dunno if they've done away with having to have played "x" amount of game sto qualify.
-
Had a wee think about it and would stick with your 5 except replacing the Falkirk game with the 4-2 Old Firm.
-
Heard Dailly needed another game to earn a medal. Heard Fleck needed two prior to the last game. But saw some fans saying the club can request as many as they want. Seems a bit of a nonsense that a guy who has played say 10 games deserves a medal, but a guy who play 9 does not. For my money anyone who played any game in the title winning campaign deserves a medal. Not a big deal perhaps, particularly considering Dailly isn't the most popular but I would like to think that everyone who played a part gets a medal.:spl:

1/7 to win the cup. Would have to be an epic cock-up/shock not to win it. Watched Falkirk - ICT on the Saturday and it was very poor. Only "footballer" on the field was Arfield. Obviously we cannot take them for granted, but if one man is sure to prevent us from doing that it's Walter. Difficult not to be over-confident for this one. :spl:

I'd heard he grew up a Rangers fan too Craig. Perhaps supporting on side then playing for the other means he is better placed than most to show impartiality. -
Excellent sentiments. Let's kick on from here and not rest on our laurels.

The only guy in the media with Celtic connections who manages to maintain any kind of professionalism and impartiality is, imo, Criag Burley. I don't think it's coinicidence that setanta continued to use him for the big EPL games once they won the rights to broacast some premiership games. -

Ha, ha. I did hear of a couple of fans getting huckled out after the first goal but seemed their were plenty more who stayed to see the trophy presentation. :spl: -

Cheers for the info. Just goes to justify my reason for not listening to these radio shows. Would they not accuse our fans of living in the past, yet they don't want to discuss current topics in Scottish football because their team didn't win! -

Has he ever written an article about is without negative undertones or a sly dig?
