Top 5 contributors to a title winning season

That's not bad going. I remember when poty was announced, statistically at least he had been better than Brown. Needs to work on his consistency. We could also do with the rest of the midfielders making a simialr contribution. -

Nice pick at number 5. It was that strength in depth of the squad that gave us a wee injection a the right time to push us towards the title. Certainly the likes of Edu and Velicka may have hardly played til the last couple of months and yet still had a massive contribution to winning the title. How many did Davis finish with Norris? Will have finished fairly high in the assists table too. -
Well done to the captain(s).

Top 5 contributors to a title winning season

Aye, just thought it might be a laugh and get people thinking about the performances over the season. As Gav points out, there maybe aren't any 5 who absolutely demand a place in the list. I think Boogie might be the only guaranteed pick. Decent choice there Gribz. Even in spite of being dropped for off-field behaviour McGregor wouldn't be far away from the top 5. -

Definitely. Edu's been the best midifielder pretty much since he got a regular starting spot. The other boys I named have been there all season though. Whittaker too came onto a game at just the right time. -
Top 5 contributors to a title winning season

Aye arguably only Boogie has played at a consistently high level all year, and maybe Weir too I guess. Think McGregor would have been in there easily had he not got himself dropped because of his Scotland antics. -
Yeh I thought it seemed strange but assumed it was due to the same reasons you have given. Was funny at one point watching Boyd chasing some United boy and kicking him constantly. Not malicious. Just tackling like a typical forward.

Just a bit of fun. In order who were the top 5 contributors to winning the title this year? 1) Bougherra - I think the best player of the year should be numero uno. 2) Boyd - 31 Goals says it all. 3) Davis - up and down but always seemed to chip in with important goals or assists and at just the right time. 4) Miller - (Can't believe i'm saying that) Scored some important goals and put in som big performances. E.g. Tims 4-2 and Aberdeen 2-1. 5) Weir - Title winning captain and one half of best defensive partnership in the league. (5 was between Weir and Papac. Just plumped for the captain).

No, not the decision to go at them from the first whistle. I think that is the decision that won us the game and the league so comfortably. However, every one saw that. The tactical decision I want to mention though is to do with the strikers. Was it just me, or did it appear Boyd had been given instruction to drop in and help out the midifield when we didn't have the ball? Tracking back and harrying players, whilst Miller stayed furthest forward as a spearhead to the attack. Seemed odd to me. Miller's greater movement and work rate would surely make him more effective for the role of additional defensive duties? On the flip side, if when we get the ball back Miller's pace would make him a better option for breaking and attacking United or chasing balls over the top and into the channels. Definitely seemed to me though that Smith had tasked Boyd with making a nuisance of himself in midfield when United had the ball whilst Miller kept them stretched by being the furthest man forward.

Tearing it up in the City of Discovery. We went to a place we've not won in years, played our bogey team in a game about as tense as it gets. But we approaced it the right way and just destroyed them.
-
A lot of quality performances yesterday. Papac, Edu, Lafferty, Boyd. Boyd's turn before Lafferty's goal was exceptional.
-
You had to watch via that! Must have been brutal.

As Calscot has pointed out elsewhere,Smith has proven he is king on the domestic scene. 8 titles out of 10 available. And we all know but for exceptional circumstances it would 9. Our Uefa cup run shows how much he has learnt about playing in Europe compared to his first stint. I would look at Kaunus as the blip and not the UEFA cup final. We had some fantastic results against Barca, Lyon and Stuttgart (french and German champs respectively) not to mention Fiorentina, Weder Bremen and other decent sides. Hopefully Smith will be able to replicate some of those results in next years Champions League and guide his side through the group stage.

Well chuffed for the big man. If anyone deserves a title out of those who have been at the club the last 3 or 4 years it is Mr Goals himself.
-
I still can't believe it really. I was all geared up for a nail biting finish and late goals to win it. Instead we went out with the right attitude, got an early goal and pumped them. Brilliant Rangers.
-
Always good to hear that theme at Ibrox.
-
Really hope Boogie stays. Best player in Scotland this year (not Caldwell for any daft hacks looking in). Like Cuellar I think he could play EPL football and not look out of place.
-
If you saw how he celebrated the goals in the dugout you'd see how much it meant to him. As pleased for him as I am any other Ranger that we won the title.
-
Totally agree John, he's really blossomed into a quality full back under Smith.
-
He's done well for them. I think like the Geordies they struggle to accept their real place in the league which is behind the OF.
-
I don't hate them either, but can still laugh at them.
