Mate, I don't expect everyone to have the same opinion but in some issues it is good to have a united front (publicly at least) to ensure our lobbying is effective. As it stands we're making little difference by arguing with each other and not having anything united/organised to buy into - literally. We can alter our destiny but we'll all have to be a bit more humble if we're to do so.

Yes, I read that and I can't say David's lack of enthusiasm surprises me. He's been around the Trust now for 5 years or more so I don't blame him for coming across a bit tired. But he's resigning in the next month or two anyway so in many ways his opinion is moot. I'm sure others on the RST board (old and new members alike) are interested in examining ways of improving their organisation's profile and reputation by pooling resources and finding a route through these tough times. I'd urge every bear to have a think about what they'd like to see happen and ask themselves what is possible in today's climate.

Andy McInnes at the Express suggests Eagles and Conway are not targets... http://www.express.co.uk/posts/view/186800/A-new-heart-for-Rangers-mid-field

I'm hopeful because more and more people are getting frustrated with the status quo. To be clear, IMHO, direct, aggressive protest won't work. The majority don't agree with such methods, are apathetic to the situation or simply feel we're still competitive enough as a club. Indeed, it could be argued that without efficiency savings we've seen the club will have no future. However, there are other, more constructive methods of making our point as we are right to be concerned. Over the last year or so the club chairman and CEO have been at pains to make clear how important the fans are - emotionally and financially. Yet, still and disgracefully, we are not involved in the decision-making process despite the unfulfilled promises of SDM in 2007. Worse, we're fobbed off with prevarications about the direction of the club and its associated problems. Our support are the largest annual financial investors into the club and are surely entitled to a bit of transparency about the overall situation while being able to contribute at board level to its strategy. That is the point we need to make as the Rangers family - together - should be aware of what is needed to keep the club successful while sharing information to find and maintain investment going forward. Protesting outside the front door or the offices of MIH in Edinburgh isn't (IMO) the best way of achieving that. Coming together as a support and placing pressure that way is. I invite every Rangers fan to do their part in that - and specifically look to our fan leaders (be it websites, fanzines, shareholder groups or RSCs) to take the lead therein. I'm doing my own small part to try and facilitate further debate between these parties. While that not be the ideal route to take it is one of the few avenues available for us to examine when we look for methods of club improvement.

Johnston, like Bain, won't take any important decisions without the approval of Murray. Sure, because of Murray's own problem's, they may have had a bit more leeway than usual in terms of a few comments to the media and fans, but generally speaking Sir David Murray remains in charge and nothing will be done without his input. It is beyond time the fans had a part in this decision-making given the comments of the chairman/Bain in recent months. We need to focus on this and apply some pressure. Murray will remain the key to any access so he should be the target of any points we wish to make. I'm hopeful we'll see some movement on this in the coming weeks/months.

Problem is Smith, probably like all of us, changes his mind on what is happening and how bad it is on a day-to-day, issue-to-issue basis. His inconsistent media work hasn't been helpful while the club themselves seem to change their stance depending on the weather. I'd say only two people really know what way the wind is blowing and have the ability to build a buffer. SDM and the CEO of Lloyds. They are the people who are ultimately to blame for the confusion and they are the people who we must go to for answers.

Yep, the only solace we can take is that because our squad is so lightweight, the young lads on the fringes are likely to get their chance. Will that be enough when it obviously affects our competitiveness? I'm not so sure...
-
Aye, as it stands, the situation isn't great. Hopefully we'll see some movement inwards over the next week or so which may cheer us up.

SSN reporting that deal has been agreed for Thomson and he is down south for medical...
-
Amended...

Edu is certainly prone as well but Thomson has had two serious knee injuries in his career and had had plenty niggling injuries during his time at Ibrox as well. Welcome to Gersnet.

A positive look on the Thomson transfer in the ET... http://www.eveningtimes.co.uk/sport/editor-s-picks/walter-smith-eyes-1m-swoop-for-chris-eagles-1.1041068

Hopefully but I wouldn't hold my breath.
-
Simply because Smith probably thinks Thomson is surplus to requirements...
-
Depends on our formation. I think we'll be playing a 4-2-3-1 so would imagine Davis will play centrally in that with a player like Eagles (hopefully) in the right-sided role.
-
The actions and words of Walter Smith over the last 8 months have been as unhelpful as anyone else at the club in recent times. I really don't see what we have to gain for announcing to all and sundry that he is leaving.
-
I don't see how we'll be able to afford the wages of Eagles if a team like Bolton is interested...
-
It is clear to me Smith is happy enough with Thomson being allowed to move on.
-
It certainly seems as if the 7-10 day long term planning is plainly evident...
-
Is it though? I don't disagree mate but some people will see £2million for an injury prone, inconsistent player entering the last year of his contract as reasonable business. Celtic couldn't achieve as much as that for Boruc which tells you all you need to know about our market. One thing is for certain the club need to be more transparent with the supporters as, I'm extremely worried about our investment in terms of planning and strategy.
-
Alex: Like I say, perhaps we didn't 'need' to sell Thomson but made the decision to do so because of the other players we have for his position, while needing money to strengthen other areas of the team.
-
Gavin: Most of what you write makes sense but it is worrying that we seem unable to reject even the most basic offers for most of our players - no matter their contractual situation. One can only assume Walter Smith is happy with this transfer for the reasons you highlight.
-
It is a fair point mate. Season tickets are no longer the necessity they used to be. Sure if we want to be at Ibrox when Celtic visit, you'll need one but other than that game you'll get a ticket for any match nowadays and you won't pay all that much more to pay on a match-by-match basis. The lack of interaction with the rank and file fans is shameful.
-
I don't mind any player leaving (for the right sum) but we must replace them and show the supporters who invest into the club we still have the ambition required to improve.

Meanwhile Traynor in the Record suggests Thomson will leave but that there will be no new signings before we leave for Oz... http://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/2010/07/13/middlesbrough-close-in-on-2m-deal-for-rangers-midfield-star-kevin-thomson-86908-22409127/
