We have to remember we had a bit of �£3million for Boyd in the January transfer window so strikers do cost a bit more cash than other players in the same contract situation. I think this transfer is dead, so hopefully we have other targets to move onto.

And the season kicks off next week. We're too slow and too weak in our transfer dealings. It seems almost every club and agent knows this.

Nice post mate... I agree results are important (which arguably makes the league the most important competition for us now) but we shouldn't be afraid to retain some ambition in our play. Either in terms of style and/or competing with teams that may be financially stronger at this moment in time.

We had �£9million of outstanding fees late last year which we had to pay off. Can't see the bank allowing us to build up the same type of figure again as CL income isn't guaranteed.

As it stands out 'streamlined' squad is probably reflecting our underdog status but a couple of new signings could change that... Let's hope Celtic get knocked out on Wednesday as that should catalyse our transfer activity.

Thanks for posting this BD... I think it is pretty obvious what outlook this programme will have so it will be interesting to see if our understandable pre-conceptions are met by the imbalanced nature of the production.

Davis and Arteta are quite similar in that they're two decent creative players who, if not used correctly, can easily fall out of games. Arteta may be considered slightly better because of his recent EPL experience but I remember his contribution at Rangers was as inconsistent as Davis' can be. Davis would do just as well at Everton IMO.

Davis is as good a player as Arteta IMO anyway but I'd be surprised if Everton sold both Pienaar and Arteta in favour of him.
