  1. This word 'compete' again. The definition or context of its use is what's dividing opinion. We cannot compete financially at this level, sure, very obviously. We cannot compete to win the competition, again that's clear. It's difficult to compete to get out of the group we were in or even for 3rd and a run in the EL. However , I think we could have competed better if we had the luck of a better draw. But we should certainly be competing in every game we play - by that I mean putting up a damned good fight - making it hard for teams to beat us even if, inevitably, they would. That to me is what competing means, and I expect that from any Rangers team, ravaged with injuries or not. That's what playing for Rangers means. That would sit okay with our fans - we have a sense of realism and will back the manager and team as long as you can hold your head high at the final whistle knowing you gave everything to the cause.
  2. Nail on the head. We cannot implement Ajax model as we cannot come second for a few years, we can have the odd academy player making us money like Patterson but the big money will come from players paying in the first team and winning trophies like Aribo and Bassey
  3. We need a manager and DOF to be in unison and to convince the board what's required for success on the pitch and financially off the pitch. The player trading model won't really work if we don't have a manager and squad capable of winning the domestic title. The domestic title and entry to the CL Groups (for now at least) would then guarantee a level of finance to keep improving the team. This season's CL group was a hard one to add points and further prize money, but if we get a decent draw we should be able to add several more million to the prize fund, especially if we can do enough to drop into the EL knock outs. That's not an unobtainable goal. Success on the park should fuel a successful player trading model and that's what the manager and DOF should be made accountable for. However, the board need to make more funds available to build a squad that the manager believes is good enough to win the title. I don't believe they did that. You could argue about injuries etc. but again it's about having a squad that are capable not just an 11 or 15 players. I guess that's what frustrated Gerrard in the end, he knew we needed 2 strong players for every position, not just numbers of bodies. So for me the board have been short sighted - have believed too much in Wilson and his recruitment strategy, so he is also culpable. Gio doesn't help either, if he's stating he's happy with the squad.
  4. It won't hit them until later. Right now the reaching the CL Groups was a target achieved and 4 points off the top domestically is something they think can be turned around when the walking wounded return to action. But they'll see.
  5. Agree. I said before that I think the run to the EL final last season was due to the momentum we had in Europe thanks to Gerrard and although we were not firing fully domestically we did hold a 6 pint advantage at the top when GvB came in. He threw the lead away is regressing further this season (even factoring in the step up to the CL). He will not be winning anything at Rangers, but we'll stick with him anyway...until the end of the season at the very least.
  6. As I said, they should have been moved on last year - and we could have sold both of them then, maybe not for their peak values, but now they're worth nothing and have contributed very little of late. We can't afford to let our most valuable assets to run down their contracts. Wilson has done a terrible job. Its easy to sell a Paterson, a Bassey and an Aribo on their form, his job should be to keep the squad fresh and know when we should cash in.
  7. Well it was Bennet that said it so take it with a pinch of salt if you want.
  8. Firstly, the recruitment has been fairly poor, in hindsight, players past their sell-by date and those that didn't renew contracts (last year) should have been moved on, injuries have a played a part but we should not be getting thumped, in the manner we have been, every game in Europe, I don't care what budget the opposition has.
  9. He'd be better than any of the defenders we have.
  10. Apparently Roof repairs were £28M and Edmiston house would have been a multi £M project so these are not every year costs.
  11. I can't disagree with that.
  12. lighten up mate, it's called humour.
  13. *so long as the opposition are as poor as Aberdeen
  14. Rangers 1 Ajax 2 FGS: Tav
  15. Makes sense, I can't think of any other value the club are getting apart from usage of the bus fleet.
  16. I suspect GvB wanted to keep Colak fresh for Aberdeen and Morelos needs to improve match fitness, but it wasn't really important in any case. One CL dead rubber to go, meaning I don't see Morelos getting a run of games for this club again not with Colak in the domestic form he's in and Roofe available again. As for GvB, again it doesn't really matter. I can't see us winning the league with this crop of players or this manager and the board won't act now, but could be forced to act at the end of the season, depending on how bad it get's domestically. However, they're smart enough to know we can't continue to play second fiddle to the yahoos for a third season in a row, the fans won't allow it, and so will have to take action.
  17. Perfect GIF response, LOL!!!!
  18. Rangers 4 Aberdeen 0 FGS: Colak
  19. Napoli 3 Rangers 1 FGS: Tav
  20. Do you have more knowledge? How do you know that we cannot afford to replace Gio or both Gio and Wilson? Or maybe the question should be, can the board afford NOT to replace them?
  21. Spot on, we have very little knowledge of the clubs financial situation and it's not our job to think of a solution. However a solution must be found before we set ourselves back 5 years. Wilson needs to find such a solution as that's his job and the board's job to approve it. And it's also the boards job to sack Wilson if he isn't doing his job. Now go get in done.
