RST involved in new takeover bid?

Recommended Posts

I wonder what the Rangers board and management actually think about this (off-the-record obviously). I'm wondering whether or not they view fan ownership as a viable future for the club. It's the sort of thing that might be essential for the fans to know because these are the people running the club at the moment and their opinions would be a highly valued input. Maybe that's what the submission of this 'exploratory document/s' by the RST is all about?

Another Sunday another hotchpotch suggestion of a "takeover". Is Murray the stumbling block to any takeover, is he using the club (again) for his own ends, does he really have any intention of selling. What Murray says and does is often 3 different things. Aren't the RST "close" to Minty, is the chances of someone of status "taking over" now more hope than solid expectation, Does anyone believe Murray will be gone by next season, is there any cogent or coherent reason to think this taking his past track record into consideration.

Is this now The Only Show in Town or are there now Two Shows in Town? If this is now The Only Show in Town, what happened to the other Only Show in Town? Did it Leave Town?

I wouldn't recomment anyone wasting too much time on this nonsense. If Jim McColl is interested in buying Rangers then he will do so. Sorry but the notion that the RST will orchestrate anything mcColl is involved in is several miles beyond fantasy.

...... unless of course, during the Great Silence of recent months, the RSTmembership has somehow surged to some 30,000 well-heeled souls, each desperate to part with their cash. No, stop it:D

One of Britain’s richest men is backing a Ã?£30 million supporters takeover bid of Rangers.

Rangers Supporters Trust has submitted a formal acquisition proposal which would involve supporters raising the money through a membership scheme to buy out Sir David Murray’s majority shareholding in the club.

It says it has the backing of a wealthy businessman to provide the financial safety net – believed to be Jim McColl, the 58-year-old owner of Clyde Blowers group, whose personal wealth was estimated at Ã?£800m two years ago.

The Trust, which has more than Ã?£50,000 in shares in the club and has long called for representation on the board, said it is “very confident” the necessary funds can be raised. It believes 20,000 Rangers fee-paying members, contributing Ã?£1,500 over five years, would be a “prudent, realistic and deliverable target”.

In its submission to Rangers, the Trust says: “Rangers supporters can – and will – raise the (assumed) Ã?£30m-Ã?£31m required to purchase the club’s equity when presented with a compelling vision which is inspirational but sensible.

“Fan ownership is a viable and exciting way forward and roadmap to a secure, stable future.”
