Murray, Marketing and missed opportunities

Recommended Posts

I know many would not have liked the idea however renaming our stadium would probably have made us a lot of money a few years ago.

I wouldn't have a problem with it to be honest. Everyone would still call it Ibrox anyway. Even if one of the stands was to be re-named it wouldn't be such a bad thing

The Ibrox Land Bank: It baffles me that we have Rangers supporters heading to Pizzahut, McDonalds, Wee Rangers Club, Stadium Bar and every pub on PRW, yet the club have never even come close to having a supporter friendly food and beverage proposition near Ibrox. I presume this would have been part of the casino project?

Regardless, we see these types of supporter villages at loads of away grounds on our european travels and I suspect even the most simple of market research would confirm there is a demand for a Rangers orientated leisure experience for pre and post match.

There used to be a large Rangers club next to Ibrox but I don't think it was very successful and I think it shut down.

The Edmiston Club? Another story of mismanagement and missed opportunity in my opinion.

Seen more useful as office space.............

It may have been financially beneficial but it would not have happened imo, nobody invested to rename St James Park iirc, after the sports direct @ St James park disaster. Seems to work well in Germany but here its a different story.

Stacks of missed opportunites along with mistakes which have been discussed in the past. The big screens was an error, they could easily have been built into the club deck stairways which may have looked ok. But the capacity would have been 57000 if seats had been put in the corners.

I thought selling the name rites to Ibrox would have been a good idea. At the end of the day we would all have still called it Ibrox. Because the main stand is a listed building there's no chance of the front of it having a big sponsor splashed across it, so we would not have noticed any difference to the important part of Ibrox.

Murrays Missed Opportunities

1. The Big Screen Fiasco[/b]

I always wondered what was going through Murrays head when he introduced the big screen TVs. The opportunity to actually use them were limited as TV rights dictated what games could be shown. Surely if some one actually sat down and calculated the amount of seats that could have been placed there instead and the average ticket cost across the number of games we are looking at a lot of revenue lost over the years.

Anyways guys over to you to list what you feel he got wrong.

The cost of having to build new roofs over three stands negated the value of additional seating. The original plan was to have more seating but the need to support roofs meant large pillars were required rendering a large proportion of the additional seating having restricted views.

Whilst the screens have been crap for years it must be remembered that when the were initially installed they were state of the art and actually made good money for the club by renting them out to Wimbledon, cricket test matches, T in the Park et al.
