Ally McCoist has revealed he is considering a move to hand Kenny Miller an unprecedented third spell as a Rangers player.

The Ibrox boss is stepping up his reinforcement plans ahead of the SPL season and confirmed a return for Miller had not been ruled out as he weighs up various attacking options.

The Scotland striker left Glasgow in January to sign a lucrative deal with Turkish club Bursaspor, but is anxious to move back to the UK after failing to settle.

McCoist has kept in contact with Miller since he exited Ibrox, although he has yet to discuss the possibility of a transfer with the 31-year-old.

'Kenny has never been out of my thoughts,' said McCoist, speaking at the club's preseason training camp in Germany. 'He is a player who did very well for us. He is a good lad and gets on well with everyone here. I wouldn't rule anyone out and I certainly wouldn't rule Kenny Miller out.

'But I haven't spoken to him to any degree or great length about it because he is obviously still under contract at Bursaspor. Kenny ticks all the boxes in terms of what we're looking for but, to be fair, we're looking at a few who tick all the boxes.

'I'm not going to tell you that deal is going to happen or it's not going to happen.'

Miller banks around £45,000 per week at Bursaspor but would be willing to take a substantial cut in wages to return home. Even so, finding the right financial package would be one obstacle in the way of any deal for a player who previously joined Rangers from Hibs and Derby.

'I'm sure there are clubs in England interested in him and he'd probably get nearer the money he'd be looking for down there,' added McCoist.

McCoist is hoping to make substantial progress on the transfer front this week, with defensive reinforcements his first priority.

Espanyol centre-back Raul Rodriguez is under consideration but the Rangers boss made it clear he wants a more experienced operator capable of making an immediate impact.

'I want someone who can play in the team right away,' he said. 'You can buy kids, ones for the future and take a wee gamble now and then, but we need men to come into our team.'

Madjid Bougherra will fly home today for a scan on a hamstring strain, but Rangers are hopeful he will be fit for the SPL opener a week on Saturday.

Kyle Lafferty will visit a specialist in Manchester to have his groin injury assessed, with a four-week absence thought to be the maximum.

New contracts for David Weir and Steven Davis could be confirmed in the near future after McCoist reported positive developments on discussions. He is, however, baffled as to why Gregg Wylde has not signed the three-year extension offered earlier this summer.

'He hasn't signed his contract. Why not? I don't know,' said McCoist. 'A contract has been put to him and I think it will be our final offer.'

Unless I am mistaken, he does not have an agent. Ally spoke to his parents. Rangers are quite keen to sign him up again, but apparently have a certain structure in terms of ability and wages.

The word is (from some people with inside knowledge on FF) that he's been offered 3 years at 800 pound a week, which is what he gets these days. He's keen on some increase, as Ness and Fleck earn 1,5k a week. IMHO, just under 40k a year for a 19-year old ain't that bad ... and I do assume that if he hits the ground running again, he will sure get a better contract cometh the time ...

40k for a 19 yr old who has contributed to a league and cup-double winning season seems LOW to me. You cant compare a 19 yr old footballer with a 19 yr old labourer.

It is all about relativity. This lad could probably already command a move to a mid-table EPL team on 5 times what he is being offered, if the offer is true.

Further, they are asking him to take a wage which is less than 10% of under-achieveres such as Edu. And, even looking at his peers, he is being asked to take 50% of the salary that Fleck, who has contributed less than Wylde in his time thus far, is on.

I might be in the minority but age shouldnt be the crucial factor in determining a contract offer, nor should it be so rigid as to ignore other factors such as contribution to the team, importance in terms of squad status etc. And one other factor, which I see as being pretty important, which is that he is already contributing to the 1st team so with another 3 years of experience he could become a much improved player from even his current position which could realise the club a pretty hefty transfer fee OR could become a vital member of the 1st team. He has proven he is ready for 1st team football, is our only natural left sided midfielder and we should be looking at all these factors in conjunction.

IMO, if Fleck & Ness are on 1.5k a week then so too should Wylde. Thus far, IMHO, he has been as valuable to the 1st team squad as Ness and, in fact, moreso than Fleck. Ergo, I think he is worth at least parity with his peers.

Spot on Craig.

I can understand why Wylde is only on £800 at the moment because he's only just broken through this past season, but if he's being offered a new contract it should definitely be on a par with the likes of Fleck and Ness. Get it sorted Ally!!

He cemented a place in the first team so deserves a good wage. His performances were hit or miss but he has done well and deserves the same wage as some of his peers, Hutton, Ness and Fleck. Btw he is 20 as is Hutton and Ness.

Am I the only one not overly blown away by Wylde?

Don't get me wrong, he was great against PSV on his first full debut, but I felt he was a bit anonymous after that and struggled to have the same impact on the SPL that he had against the Dutch.

Dont get me wrong, he has a LOT of improving to do. But he did contribute. More than Fleck. So if Fleck is on 1500 a week then Wylde deserves at least parity.

His final ball is wanting at times and his positional sense leaves a fair bit to be desired. Things which CAN be improved upon. But he legitimately can say he contributed as much to last season as both Ness & Fleck, so if they are on 1500 a week he probably deserves it too.
